Data

The Upper Midwest Water Science Center collects, analyzes, and distributes data on a variety of water-related issues and resources. Much of our data is publicly available through the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS).

Cumulative antecedent precipitation data associated with well water samples collected in eastern Pennsylvania June-November 2017

The dataset includes aggregated precipitation data from a USGS rain gauge for specified 7- or 8-day time periods between May and November 2017. Daily precipitation measurements were summed to produce 7- or 8-day totals over the specified time period.

Suspended-sediment concentrations, acoustic data, and a linear regression model for the Minnesota River at Mankato, Minnesota, 2016-2019

A simple linear regression model was developed and calibrated for the Minnesota River at Mankato, Minnesota (Site Number: 05325000). The linear regression model was calibrated using acoustic and suspended-sediment concentration data collected from 2016 through 2019.The calibrated model will be used to improve understanding of sediment transport processes and increase accuracy of estimating sedimen

Data and regression models describing biofilms and water quality in streams surrounding Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, Milwaukee, Wisconsin (2009-2014)

Heterotrophic biofilm growths were monitored in sites upstream and downstream of Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; samples were collected primarily during and surrounding the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 deicing seasons, with additional sample collection occurring in 2014. Biofilms were assessed using both field surveys and modern genetic approaches, and responses to e

SPARROW model inputs and simulated streamflow, nutrient and suspended-sediment loads in streams of the Midwestern United States, 2012 Base Year

The U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) SPAtially Referenced Regression On Watershed attributes (SPARROW) model was used to aid in the interpretation of monitoring data and simulate streamflow and water-quality conditions in streams across the Midwest Region of the United States. SPARROW is a hybrid empirical/process-based mass balance model that can be used to estimate the major sources and environme

Isolation of Methylmercury Using Distillation and Anion-Exchange Chromatography for Isotopic Analyses in Natural Matrices Data Release

This dataset consists of concentration and isotopic data for a method designed to isolate and analyze methylmercury. Several matrices (lab-based, and natural) were tested to ensure that the method was capable of recovering methylmercury amendments. Additionally, natural matrices (plankton and sediment) with ambient methylmercury were also analyzed to ensure that the method could be successfully ap

Gruber's Grove Bay Mercury Site Assessment

Mercury (Hg) concentrations and isotopic compositions were collected in sediments, soils, and suspended particulate matter from Gruber's Grove Bay (GGB) and upstream reference sites to inform future remedial efforts. The highest concentrations and isotopic signatures were observed in soils collected from historic water settling ponds from the Badger Army Ammunition Plant (BAAP). Sediments from the

Select pipe-flow monitoring data from RecoveryPark in Detroit, MI (2015-2016)

This dataset includes pipe-flow monitoring data in sewers used to analyze the water budget at RecoveryPark in Detroit, Michigan. These are provided as 3 text *.csv files at sewer locations that drain the study area.

Select soil testing data from RecoveryPark in Detroit, MI (2014)

This dataset includes soil testing data at various locations within RecoveryPark in Detroit, Michigan. These are provided as 2 *.csv files and 1 xlsx workbook.

Regional Trends of Isotopic Composition in Total Gaseous Mercury Across the United States

The dataset presented here represents the concentrations and stable isotopic composition of gaseous mercury (Hg) for 31 sites across the United States. This national-scale monitoring effort was performed by the National Atmospheric Deposition Program (NADP) and the USGS over a two-year period (March 2016 - May 2018). The network includes a highly diverse set of sites ranging from remote (e.g. Dena

Sampling site information, well construction details, and data dictionaries for data sets associated with the National Crude Oil Spill Fate and Natural Attenuation Site near Bemidji, Minnesota

This U.S. Geological Survey data release provides detailed sampling site information, hole and well construction details, and data dictionaries necessary to interpret historical and future physical, chemical, and biological data sets derived from samples collected and measurements made in association with the National Crude Oil Spill Fate and Natural Attenuation Research Site. In 1979, a high-

Microplastics in the surficial benthic sediment from Lake Michigan and Lake Erie, 2013 and 2014

This dataset describes the quantity, morphology, concentration and polymer identity of microplastics in surficial benthic sediment of Lake Michigan and Lake Erie. Lake Michigan sediment samples were collected at 20 locations in September, 2013 and Lake Erie sediment samples were collected at 12 locations in September, 2014 while on-board the R.V. Lake Guardian. Sampling and analysis methods are de

Ratios of strontium to calcium measured in pectoral fin rays of lake sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) captured in the lakes and rivers of Namakan Reservoir, Minnesota, United States and Ontario, Canada, 2007-15

The U.S. Geological Survey, Voyageurs National Park, South Dakota State University, and Missouri Department of Conservation conducted a cooperative study to measure ratios of strontium to calcium (Sr:Ca) in cross sections of pectoral fin rays obtained from lake sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) captured in lakes and rivers of Namakan Reservoir in Minnesota and Ontario. We measured Sr:Ca ratios in cr
