Contaminants in eggs of aquatic birds from the grasslands of central California

Eggs were collected from the Grasslands of western Merced County, California, during 1986 and 1987, and at the Mendota Wildlife Area in Fresno County in 1987, as part of a reproductive study of nesting ducks and shorebirds. The eggs were analyzed to evaluate the effects of contaminants in agricultural drainwater on avian reproduction. Agricultural drainwater was the major source of water for irrig

Overview of the National Water-Quality Assessment Program

The Nation's water resources are the basis for life and our economic vitality. These resources support a complex web of human activities and fishery and wildlife needs that depend upon clean water. Demands for good-quality water for drinking, recreation, farming, and industry are rising, and as a result, the American public is concerned about the condition and sustainability of our water resources

Quality of surface and ground water in the White Creek and Mossy Creek watersheds, White County, Georgia, 1992-93

Surface- and ground-water quality data were collected and evaluated from streams and wells in the White Creek and Mossy Creek watersheds in White County, Georgia, during three sampling periods in 1992 and 1993, to identify stream reaches and wells affected by nonpoint-source contaminants. Livestock operations in these watersheds account for approximately 9.8 million tons of manure per year, which

Nitrate in ground water in the western Lake Michigan drainage basin, Wisconsin and Michigan

In 1991, the U.S. Geological Survey began the nationwide implementation of the National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Program. The long-term goals of the NAWQA Program are to describe the status and trends in the quality of a large, representative part of the Nation's surface- and ground-water resources and to provide a sound, scientific understanding of the primary natural and human factors th

Hydrologic, water-quality, and meteorologic data for Newberry Volcano and vicinity, Deschutes County, Oregon, 1991-93

This report is a compilation of hydrologic, water- quality, and meteorologic data collected in the vicinity of Newberry Volcano near Bend, Oregon. These data were collected, in cooperation with the Bonneville Power Administration, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management, to provide baseline data for identifying and assessing the effects of proposed geothermal development in the

Estimated use of water in Tennessee, 1990

Water withdrawals in Tennessee in 1990 were estimated to average 9,210 million gallons per day (Mgal/d) for offstream uses--a 9-percent increase from the 1985 estimate. Average per capita water use for all offstream uses was 1,890 gallons per day. Public-supply with- drawals (712 Mgal/d) represented a 14-percent increase from 1985 withdrawals. Self-supplied withdrawals during 1990 changed since 19

Selected nutrients in stormwater runoff from Davenport, Iowa, 1992

Flow-weighted composite samples of stormwater runoff from areas of different land use in Davenport, Iowa, were collected in the summer and fall of 1992 and analyzed for selected nutrients. Annual constituent loads were estimated for the area drained by the Davenport storm-sewer network. In all cases, the regression-equation estimate of mean annual load is less than the estimate obtained by using t
