Geology and water-supply potential of the Anoka Sand Plain aquifer, Minnesota
Intensified land development on the Anoka sand plain necessitates a better understanding of the hydrogeology of the surficial outwash deposits of the area. The Anoka sand-plain aquifer consists of outwash attributable to two different ice lobes. Predominant grain size of the upper outwash decreases and sorting coefficient increases from west to east. Till or lake deposits underlie most of the surf

Geohydrology of Muscatine Island, Muscatine County, Iowa
Muscatine Island is a wide segment of the west bank of the Mississippi River flood plain that covers about 50 square miles in Muscatine and Louisa Counties; the project area encompasses the 30 square miles in Muscatine County. The flood plain is underlain by thick, permeable alluvial deposits that comprise a water-table aquifer that is developed extensively for water supplies in the area. The aqui

Water quality of the glacial-outwash aquifer in the Great Miami River Basin, Ohio
The present water-quality conditions of the highly productive glacial-outwash aquifer in the Great Miami River basin of southwestern Ohio are documented by analyses of water from 98 sampling sites. Localized high concentrations of iron up to 5600 micrograms per liter, ammonia nitrogren as nitrogen up to 11 milligrams per liter, nitrite plus nitrate nitrogen as nitrogen up to 9.8 milligrams per li

Small-stream flood investigations in Minnesota: October 1958 to September 1975
An investigation of flood flows from small drainage basins in Minnesota was initiated to aid in the design of bridges, culverts and other highway drainage structures. The program provides peak flow data on streams having drainage areas generally less than 50 square miles, placing particular emphasis on those less than 10 square miles. Basin parameters being investigated are drainage area, length o

Availability and quality of ground water in the Winston area, Douglas County, Oregon
A map of the Winston area, Douglas County, Oreg., shows areal geology and locations and chemical diagrams of wells with water analyses. Another map of the area has diagrams showing the depth to water, pumping level, total depth, and yields of selected wells. Reported yields of wells range from less than 1 to as much as 70 gallons per minute; the average is less than 10. A table listing chemical an

Flow routing in the Susquehanna River Basin: Part I - Effects of Raystown Lake on the low-flow frequency characteristics of the Juniata and lower Susquehanna Rivers, Pennsylvania
A flow-routing model was used to simulate 17 water years of daily streamflows at five sites. The sites were Mapleton Depot and Newport, Pennsylvania, on the Juniata River, and Harrisburg and Marietta, Pennsylvania, and Conowingo, Maryland, on the Susquehanna River. The purpose for the simulations was to determine the effects of a new reservoir, Raystown Lake, on the low-flow frequency characterist

Water resources of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Oregon
Water resources of the Umatilla Indian Reservation are poorly distributed both geographically and in time. On the reservation, only the Umatilla River and one of its principal tributaries, Meacham Creek, have significant perennial flows. Runoff of the principal streams is largely from snowmelt in the Blue Mountains and is highly variable. The principal aquifers are the Columbia River Basalt Group

Approximate areas of recharge to the Chicot and Evangeline aquifer systems in the Houston-Galveston area, Texas
The purpose of this report is to show the general geographic areas of recharge to the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers in the Houston area, Texas (fig. 1). The areas of recharge shown on the map were determined by interpretations of subsurface hydrology, soil surveys of Harris County, and surface and subsurface geology.

Methods for collection and analysis of aquatic biological and microbiological samples
Chapter A4 contains methods used by the U.S. Geological
Survey to collect, preserve, and analyze waters to determine their
biological and microbiological properties. Part 1 discusses
biological sampling and sampling statistics. The statistical
procedures are accompanied by examples. Part 2 consists of
detailed descriptions of more than 45 individual methods,
including those for bacteria, phy

Time of travel of solutes in the Tuscarawas River Basin, Ohio, August and September, 1974
A time-of-travel study was made on a 10.6-mile reach of the Tuscarawas River to determine average velocity and dispersion characteristics between selected points. The reach was divided into five subreaches, and a fluorescent dye used as a tracer material. At about the 50-percent flow-duration level, time-of-travel of the peak concentration was 137 hours.
