Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Isotopic and chemical composition (d13C, D14C, d15N, C:N, SUVA254nm, % HPOA) of aquatic carbon and field conditions (water temperature, pH, discharge) in the Upper Mississippi River Basin, October 2014 February 2016

This dataset contains stable isotope (d13C) and radioisotope (D14C) compositions of dissolved inorganic carbon, dissolved organic carbon, particulate organic carbon, and bed material organic carbon samples collected from rivers in the Upper Mississippi River Basin between October 2014 and February 2016. Rivers were sampled at USGS gaging stations: Minnesota River at Fort Snelling State Park, MN (g

7Q10 records and basin characteristics for 224 basins in South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama (2015)

This data release provides the data and R scripts used for the 2017 submitted publication titled "Improving predictions of hydrological low-flow indices in ungaged basins using machine learning". There are two .csv files and 14 R-scripts included below. The lowflow_sc_ga_al_gagesII_2015.csv datafile contains the annual minimum seven-day mean streamflow with an annual exceedance probability of 90%

Data for Biogeochemical and Physical Processes Controlling Mercury Methylation and Bioaccumulation in Lake Powell, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Utah and Arizona

This dataset includes the field measurements and laboratory analyses of surface water, seston, and sediment collected from Lake Powell, within Glen Canyon National Recreation area (GLCA), during high flow (May-June 2014) and low flow (August 2015) conditions. The study area includes 12-13 sampling sites that follow a transect spanning the entire length of the reservoir from the Colorado River infl

Coastal Groundwater Chemical Data from the North and South Shores of Long Island, New York

Groundwater data were collected in the spring and fall of 2008 from three sites representing different geological settings and biogeochemical conditions within the surficial glacial aquifer of Long Island, NY. Investigations were designed to examine the extent to which average vadose zone thickness in contributing watersheds controlled biogeochemical conditions and processes, including dissolved o

Archive of Digitized Analog Boomer Seismic Reflection Data Collected During U.S. Geological Survey Cruise Acadiana 87-2 in the Northern Gulf of Mexico, June 1987

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Coastal and Marine Geology Program has actively collected geophysical and sedimentological data in the northern Gulf of Mexico for several decades, including shallow subsurface data in the form of high-resolution seismic reflection profiles (HRSP). Prior to the mid-1990s most HRSP data were collected in analog format as paper rolls of continuous profiles up to 25

Particulate Matter Identification in Lung Tissue from Deployers, Positive, and Negative controls Using Scanning Electron Microscopy and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (2013-2016)

We developed and tested a new method for in situ characterization of the types and distribution of inorganic particles in biopsied lung tissue from three diverse human subject groups using field emission scanning electron microscopy with an energy dispersive analyzer. Backscattered electron and secondary electron images of particulate matter in lung tissue were acquired. Inorganic particulate matt

Chemical and isotopic analyses of Mount Shasta, California

The dataset consists of chemical analyses and some isotopic analyses of rock samples collected from Mount Shasta, California, and its immediate surroundings.

Residence Times and Alluvial Architecture of a Sediment Superslug in Response to Unsteady-flow Conditions

This data release consists of four Excel files (one for each cross section) containing worksheets corresponding to each channel cross-section survey (~25-31) between 1996 and 2014. These worksheets contain the basic survey data (dates, instruments, reference elevations, foresights, distances from reference pins, and elevations). An additional worksheet contains the measured unit-volume (m^3/m) o

Rare Earth Element Occurrence Database of the Tien Shan Region, Central Asia

Central Asia, site of the historic Silk Road trade network, has long been a conduit for the movement of people, energy, and mineral resources between Europe and Asia. Once part of the former Soviet Union, this region was and continues to be an important producer of base and precious metals, rare metals (RM), including niobium, tantalum, and beryllium, and a past producer of rare earth elements (RE

GIS shapefiles for Kilauea's episode 61g lava flow, Pu`u `O`o eruption: May 2016 to May 2017

This dataset contains shapefiles and associated metadata for Kīlauea volcano's Puu Ōō episode 61g lava flow from May 24, 2016 through May 31, 2017. Episode 61g began with a breakout from the east flank of Puu Ōō on May 24, 2016. Lava reached the Pacific Ocean at Kamokuna on July 26, 2017, and began building a lava delta that extended seaward from the original coastline. This lava delta collapsed i

Occurrence of plague epizootics in colonies of black-tailed prairie dogs, Pawnee National Grassland, Colorado, 1982-2005

Data on the occurrence of plague epizootics in colonies of black-tailed prairie dogs, Pawnee National Grassland, Colorado 1982-2005. Data are derived from annual prairie dog surveys conducted by staff of the Pawnee National Grassland, U.S. Forest Service. The data includes information on the year of sampling, colony identification, UTM coordinates of colony centroids, weather (precipitation and te

Count of Sockeye Salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka), River Temperature, and River Height in the Pilgrim River, Nome, Alaska, 2003-2014

The dataset is the daily count of Sockeye Salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) passing through a fish counting weir on the Pilgrim River from 2003 to 2014. Also, included in the data set is the daily temperature and river height measured at the weir (65.103071°, -164.824046°).The fish weir was operated during the summer (late June to mid-September) by the Norton Sound Economic Development Corporation.
