Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Spatial distribution of Rhodamine WT dye concentration measured in the Des Plaines River and the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal, Chicago, IL in November 2011

These data were collected during a dye tracing study of the lower Des Plaines River and lower Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal (CSSC) in November 2011 by the U.S. Geological Survey. The study attempted to identify potential inflows of Des Plaines River water through the fractured bedrock that separates the two water bodies. Data include Rhodamine WT dye concentrations measured every 3 or 10 minutes

2016 One-Year Seismic Hazard Forecast for the Central and Eastern United States from Induced and Natural Earthquakes

A one-year seismic hazard forecast for the Central and Eastern United States (CEUS), based on induced and natural earthquakes, has been produced by the U.S. Geological Survey. The model assumes that earthquake rates calculated from several different time windows will remain relatively stationary and can be used to forecast earthquake hazard and damage intensity for the year 2016. This assessment

Water Quality and Hydrologic Data (2011-13) for Freshwater Science Paper titled, "Patterns of Diel Variation in Nitrate Concentrations in the Potomac River"

This data set includes nitrate concentration, water temperature, and discharge collected every 15 minutes during Dec. 2011 - Nov. 2013 from the USGS gage at the Potomac River near Wash, DC, Little Falls Pump Sta (01646500). Additional data includes day length, and photosynthetically active radiation from USDA research station in Beltsville, MD. Several calculations derived from these data are incl

Pharmaceutical contaminant concentration and watershed geospatial land-use/land-cover data for small wadeable streams in the Piedmont ecoregion of the USA assessed during the Southeastern Region Stream Quality Assessment during April through June 2014

Filtered water samples were collected by the USGS National Water Quality Program (NWQP) Southeastern Stream Quality Assessment (SESQA) from 59 perennial, wadeable (less than 10 m width and 1 m depth at base-flow) headwater stream sites in watersheds with varying degrees of urban land use in four states. Dataset includes sample site locations and information, analytical method information, water sa

Oceanographic and Water Quality Measurements in two Southern California Coastal Wetlands, 2013-2014

This web page provides access to oceanographic and water-quality observations made at four locations in two Southern California Coastal Wetlands. The objective was to compare an urbanized wetland with limited sediment supply (Seal Beach) to a less modified marsh with fluvial sediment supply (Mugu). Marine temperature, conductivity, pressure, optical turbidity, and acoustic velocity sensors were de

Cumulative Production Per Township - SaMiRa

This dataset contains a selected township grid within the SaMiRa (see purpose for a description of the SaMiRa project) study area attributed with cumulative oil and gas production data obtained with permission from IHS Energy Global production data.

Exploration and Well Status, Quarter Miles Cells - SaMiRa

Cell maps were created by the USGS as a method for illustrating the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in a given area; in this case, covering the SaMiRa project area of interest. Each cell represents a quarter-mile square of the land surface, and the cells are coded to represent whether the wells included within the cell are predominantly oil-producing, gas-

Hydraulic Mine Pits of California

This dataset is a compilation of boundary location polygons for 167 hydraulic mine pits located in northern California. This dataset was compiled from three sources, Topographically Occurring Mine Symbols (TOMS) database produced by the California Department of Conservation (2001), Yeend (1974), and on-screen digitizing, using current (2015) satellite imagery, of additional hydraulic mine pits not

Eelgrass (Zostera marina) Microsatellite DNA Data; Pacific Coast of North America, 2000-2009

Genetic data collected from eelgrass (Zostera marina) populations along the Pacific coast of North America from Alaska to Baha California. 447 samples were collected comprising 401 unique individuals (genets) and 46 clones (ramets) from which 10 microsatellite loci were obtained.

Public-Supply Water Use in Kansas, 2014

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides derivative statistics of water used by Kansas public-supply systems in 2014. Gallons per capita per day is calculated using self-reported information in the Part B: Monthly Water Use Summary and Part C: Population, Service Connections, and Water Rates sections of the Kansas Department of Agriculture, Division of Water Resources' (DWR) annual

Data related to a ground-based InSAR survey of the Slumgullion landslide, Hinsdale County, Colorado, 26 June 2010-1 July 2010

We performed a ground-based, interferometric, synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) survey of the Slumgullion landslide located in Hinsdale County, Colorado. The survey was performed 26 June 2010-1 July 2010 and utilized the IBIS-L InSAR system developed by IDS Corporation. Radar measurements were supplemented by hourly in-situ displacement, pore-water pressure, and rainfall measurements. In-situ displ

Lake Erie Fish Community Data

This data is intended for use by Lake Erie fisheries managers, academia, the fishing industry, and the public. The data sets are annually evaluated to provide estimates of abundance of key forage and predator species, to assess seasonal and spatial distributions of fishes, and assess year class strength of key forage and predator species in the western basin of Lake Erie. The data sets are then pr
