Trace-element concentrations in water, streambed sediment, and aquatic invertebrates at select locations in the Klamath River and major tributaries, 2018-2019
The U.S. Geological Survey is monitoring concentrations of metals and other trace elements in water, streambed sediment, and aquatic invertebrates at 6 locations in the middle and lower portions of the mainstem Klamath River from below J.C. Boyle dam in Oregon to near the mouth on the northwestern coast of California. Included are 3 tributary monitoring sites, one each on the Scott, Salmon, and Tr
Two videos of acrobat ants (Crematogaster sp.) preying on applesnail (Pomacea maculate) egg masses
The videos of ant (Crematogaster sp.) predation on giant applesnail (Pomacea maculata) egg masses were taken on September 24 of 2018 at the Hudson Woods Unit of the Texas Mid-Coast National Wildlife Refuge Complex (29 degrees 09'52" N, 95 degrees 30'5" W). Jennifer Wilson (US Fish and Wildlife Service) took the videos using a smart phone.
Burmese python acceleration and location data, Everglades National Park, 2010 - 2012
The dataset contains 3 components: (1) acceleration data logger (ADL) data, (2) GPS location data, and (3) body temperature data. We have ADL data from pythons in captivity (N = 2) and in free-ranging snakes (N=4). We have GPS data for 3 out of 4 free-ranging snakes. We have body temperature data for all 4 free-ranging snakes.
Results from surveys to academic and industry and government geoscientists on the future of coal geoscientists
At recent technical conferences, many coal geoscientists in academia and government institutions as well as in industry organizations have expressed concern about the dwindling number of students and young staff members interested in careers in coal geoscience. To better understand what is driving these trends and to identify potential ways that the community can increase interest and participatio
Stillwater Complex, Montana: Logs of core drilled by Anaconda in the Benbow area, 1969 to 1973
This dataset includes pdf representations of drill core logs showing associated drill core information, a pdf of the explanation for the lithology and structure sections of the logs, a shapefile of the locations of the drill holes, and eleven individual .csv files of tabular data that was compiled from hand written drill core logs. The drill core is from the Stillwater Complex, Montana and was dri
MODFLOW-NWT and MODPATH6 Models
MODFLOW-NWT and MODPATH6 Models Used to Simulate Groundwater Flow in the Regional Aquifer System of Long Island, New York, for Pumping and Recharge Conditions in 2005-15 (ver. 2.0, December 2021).
Water-quality data for a pharmaceutical study at Muddy Creek in North Liberty and Coralville, Iowa, 2017-2018
Samples were collected, processed, and analyzed for organics, estrogen equivalents, and fecal indicator bacteria. Filtered organic samples were sent to the National Water Quality Laboratory in Denver, Colorado. Unfiltered estrogen equivalent samples were sent to the Organic Geochemistry Research Lab in Lawrence, Kansas, for extraction, after which they were sent to the National Fish Health Resear
Tabular county-level nitrogen and phosphorus estimates from fertilizer and manure for approximately 5-year periods from 1950 to 2017
This product provides tabular estimates of kilograms of nitrogen and phosphorus from a) fertilizer, and b) manure, for counties in the conterminous United States for the period 1950-2017. Data are generated for approximate five-year periods over the time, coinciding with U.S. Department of Agriculture Census of Agriculture census years. This data release also includes a model archive suitable for
Metabarcoding data from freshwater mussel eDNA collected in Clinch River, Virginia 2017
Data from metabarcoding assays to detect a suite of mussel species using mitochondrial DNA regions of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) and NADH dehydrogenase subunit (ND1) genes sequences.
Data on blood cells of the collector urchin, Tripneustes gratilla
Echinoderms such as urchins are important in marine ecosystems, particularly as grazers, and unhealthy urchins can have important ecological implications. For instance, unexplained mortalities of Diadema sp. in the Caribbean were followed by algal overgrowth and subsequent collapse of coral reef ecosystems. Unfortunately few tools exist to evaluate echinoderm health making management of mortalitie
Long-term sandbar monitoring data along the Colorado River in Marble and Grand Canyons, Arizona
This data release comprises nearly three decades of measurements of sandbar topography for monitoring sites along the Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The data were collected to monitor the effects of the operations of Glen Canyon Dam on sandbars, which are also recreational campsites. The data were collected by the US Geological Survey Grand
Californian crop pests, pesticide applications, and phylogenetic information of crops
Information on pesticide applications, crop pests, and phylogenetic affinities between Californian crops and regional native plants were compiled. Data was collected to inform models of pesticide applications and host use of pests among California's 93 major crops. Pesticide data was assembled from California Department of Pesticide Regulation records, pest information was assembled from the Calif
