Organochlorine insecticide and polychlorinated biphenyl residues in woodcock wings, 1971-72

Pesticide residues in wings of adult woodcock (Philohela minor) were used to monitor regional differences in a 1970-71 survey of DDT, DDE, TDE, dieldrin, mirex, and PCBs in Maine, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Lousiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin. In 1971-72, wings were sampled again to compare levels of organochlorine insecticide residues

Organochlorine residues and eggshell thinning in wood storks and anhingas

All 10 Wood Stork eggs collected at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge in 1973 contained residues of DDE (geometric mean 4.0 ppm wet weight) and PCBs (1.2 ppm). Nine other organochlorines were found at lower frequencies in the eggs. Eggshells from the recent period were 8.9% thinner (P < 0.001) than pre-1947 samples; decrease in eggshell thickness was more closely correlated with DDE than oth

Indocyanine green: A test of hepatic function and a measure of plasma volume in the duck

1. The exponential removal of ICG from the plasma by the mallard duck liver made possible the measurement of fractional dye clearance (K), plasma volume (PV) and plasma clearance (PC).2. Values obtained for K (14.9%/min), PV (39.2 ml/kg) and PC (5.8 ml/min per kg) agreed with those obtained by other techniques used in a number of species.3. Sex did not affect the removal of ICG by the liver. Howev
