Detailed Description

This graphic shows additional tiles available for Collection 2 U.S. Analysis Ready Data (ARD) when compared to Collection 1 U.S. ARD for the same period (1982-2021).

Landsat Collection 2 replaces Collection 1 and includes improvements in processing, geometric accuracy, and radiometric calibration. With these improvements, more Landsat data met the strict standards of U.S. ARD in Collection 2. In addition, the number of input scenes were increased for the borders of the conterminous U.S., and the Alaska tile extent was expanded to include the Aleutian Islands.

Collection 1 included Landsat 1-8 data from 1982-2021 and was discontinued on December 30, 2022. To learn more about the improvements made in Landsat Collection 2 please visit https://www.usgs.gov/landsat-missions/landsat-collection-2-level-1-data
