Southwest CASC Jointly Founds New Community of Practice for Fire and Climate Adaptation
The Southwest CASC and the Southwest Fire Science Consortium jointly initiated the Southwest Fire and Climate Adaptation Partnership (SWFireCAP), an open and inclusive group of partners working to develop co-produced strategies for managing wildfires in the Southwest in light of climate change.
As climate change creates hotter and dryer conditions across the southwestern United States, wildfires are becoming more frequent and more destructive, creating new challenges for communities and resource managers in the region. The Southwest CASC recently joined the Southwest Fire Science Consortium to create the Southwest Fire and Climate Adaptation Partnership (SWFireCAP), an inclusive community of practice working to advance fire- and climate- adaptation in the region. Partners share Indigenous and western knowledge perspectives to co-develop and implement consistent, effective fire-adapted climate adaptation practices for southwestern landscapes. The group has several active partner organizations and is open to anyone interested in the intersection of climate change and fire in the Southwest.
