Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Shorelines Extracted from Landsat Imagery: Dauphin Island, Alabama

The deployment of Landsat and other earth-observing satellites within the last few decades has provided an opportunity to observe barrier islands at frequent intervals, often many times a year. A variable of persistent interest as a metric for coastal erosion or change is the shoreline. Shorelines derived from imagery have value to resolve coastal changes. This data release includes shoreline posi

Long-tailed Duck (Clangula hyemalis) Microsatellite DNA Data; Alaska, Canada, Russia, 1994-2002

This data set describes nuclear microsatellite genotypes derived from twelve autosomal loci (6AB, Aph02, Aph08, Aph19, Aph23, Bca10, Bca11, Hhi5, Sfi11, Smo07, Smo09, and CRG), and two Z-linked microsatellite loci (Bca4 and Smo1). A total of 111 Long-tailed Ducks were examined for this genotyping with samples coming from the two primary breeding locales within Alaska (Arctic Coastal Plain of Alask

Chukchi Sea Polar Bear Locations, 1985-1996

These data are the raw data collected from satellite radio-collars between1985-1996. The collars were worn by adult female polar bears ranging within the Chukchi Sea polar bear subpopulation. The locations of bears were determined by the ARGOS System on-board the collar and were transmitted via the ARGOS system once every 3 days.

Ground-Based Lidar Beach Topography of Fire Island, New York, April 2014

The U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Field Research Facility of Duck, NC collaborated to gather alongshore ground-based lidar beach topography at Fire Island, NY. This high-resolution elevation dataset was collected on April 1, 2014, and is part of the USGS\'s ongoing beach monitoring effort under Hurricane Sandy Suppleme

EAARL-B Topography-Big Thicket National Preserve: Big Sandy Creek Unit, Texas, 2014

These mosaics, prepared by the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center, provide lidar-derived first-surface and bare-earth topography for the Big Sandy Creek Unit of Big Thicket National Preserve in Texas. Elevation measurements were acquired by the second-generation Experimental Advanced Airborne Research Lidar (EAARL-B) on January 19, 21, 22, and 30, 2014, in coop

Annual California Sea Otter Census - 2015 Spring Census Summary

The spring 2015 mainland sea otter count began on 2 May and wasn't completed until 2 July. The delay in finishing the census was due primarily to limited availability of the survey plane (because of the need for the plane during the oil spill in the Refugio State Beach area). Overall viewing conditions this year were more favorable than those during the 2014 spring census (View Score = 2.6 vs.

EAARL-B Submerged Topography-Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, 2014

This mosaic, prepared by the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center, provides lidar-derived submerged topography for a portion of the submerged environs of Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Elevation measurements were acquired by the second-generation Experimental Advanced Airborne Research Lidar (EAARL-B) on March 11, 19, and 21, 2014, in cooperation with the Nati

Pressure and flow rate measurements to support hydraulic tomography of the Floridan aquifer system at the North District Wastewater Treatment Plant, Miami-Dade County, Florida

U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with Miami-Dade County, performed a sequential, aquifer stress test from August 15 to October 12, 2011, on the Floridan aquifer system at the North District Wastewater Treatment Plant, in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Miami-Dade County stressed the Floridan aquifer system with four municipal injection wells at the North District Wastewater Treatment Plant. In

Land Cover Trends Dataset, 2000-2011

U.S. Geological Survey scientists, funded by the Climate and Land Use Change Research and Development Program, developed a dataset of 2006 and 2011 land use and land cover (LULC) information for selected 100-km2 sample blocks within 29 EPA Level 3 ecoregions across the conterminous United States. The data was collected for validation of new and existing national scale LULC datasets developed from
