Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Daily operating standard data used for verification of the Petroleum Geochemistry Research Laboratory Method for Qualitative Biomarker Analysis of Crude Oil and Rock Extracts by Gas Chromatography-Single Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry

The data release contains biomarker data generated by Gas Chromatography-Single Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry in the Petroleum Geochemistry Research Laboratory. The data was used to determine the precision and accuracy of one daily operating standard for the method entitled, "Petroleum Geochemistry Research Laboratory Method for Qualitative Biomarker Analysis of Crude Oil and Rock Extracts by Gas C

Body composition data of grizzly bears in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem 2000-2020

Understanding evolutionary processes that drive population dynamics is critical in ecology. Measuring the performance-density relationship in long-lived mammalian species demands long-term data, limiting the ability to observe such mechanisms. We tested density-dependent (intrinsic) and density-independent (extrinsic) drivers of body composition of grizzly bears (Ursus arctos) in the Greater Yello

Hydrogeologic Aquifer Test dataset, Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center, December 2021

Since the 1940's, commercial, academic and government hydrologists have used aquifer tests to estimate the hydrogeologic properties of an aquifer near test wells. Results from these tests are recorded in various files, databases, reports, and scientific publications. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center (LMG) is aggregating all aquifer test results from Al

Time-series measurements of oceanographic and water quality data collected in the Herring River, Wellfleet, Massachusetts, USA, November 2018 to November 2019

Restoration in the tidally restricted Herring River Estuary in Wellfleet, MA benefits from understanding pre-restoration sediment transport conditions. Submerged sensors were deployed at four sites landward and seaward of the Herring River restriction to measure water velocity, water quality, water level, waves, and seabed elevation. These data will be used to evaluate sediment dynamics and geomor

Channel geometry for upstream and downstream cross sections at selected bridge sites in Montana, 2021

The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), collected cross-section data on the upstream and downstream sides at selected bridges in Montana during the 2021 calendar year. The purpose of the data collection is to determine if scour and channel instability occur in the vicinity of the bridge structures. Data were processed, analyzed, and compiled

Monthly inorganic nitrogen atmospheric wet deposition estimates for the conterminous United States, 1999 through 2020

This data release provides estimates of monthly wet atmospheric deposition of total inorganic nitrogen (TIN)--the summation of nitrate (NO3) and ammonium (NH4) ions--for the conterminous United States from 1999 through 2020 in units of kilograms nitrogen per square kilometer per month with spatial reference ESPG 4326. The spatial resolution of the gridded data provided in this release is approxima

Digital subsurface database of elevation point data and structure contour maps of multiple subsurface units, Powder River Basin, Wyoming and Montana, USA

This digital data release presents subsurface data from multiple geologic units that were part of a previous study of the regional subsurface structural configuration of the Powder River Basin in Wyoming and Montana. The original data within this geodatabase is sourced from an unpublished doctoral dissertation by Jessie Melick at Montana State University (Melick, 2013). Data contained in this rele

CE-QUAL-W2 water-quality model and data for Berlin Lake, Lake Milton, Michael J Kirwan Reservoir, Mosquito Creek Lake, and the Mahoning River, Ohio

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is considering changing the operations of Berlin Lake, Lake Milton, Michael J Kirwan Reservoir, and Mosquito Creek Lake. The lakes in this study are all reservoirs, formed by dams. These models were constructed to simulate those operations and document possible water-quality effects in the lakes, the lake outflows, and the Mahoning River downstream of the lakes. Th

Vegetation greenness observations by dune crest elevation, East and West Ship Island, Mississippi 2008-2009

This data release provides greenness for the dune crest and nearby backslope of the dune estimated from cloud-free 30-m satellite imagery during the hurricane seasons for 2008 and 2009 for East and West Ship Island, Mississippi. These data also include dune crest elevation from September 2008 produced by the U.S. Geological Survey (https://doi.org/10.5066/F7GF0S0Z).

Data for Regression Models to Estimate Water Use in Providence, Rhode Island, 2014-2021

This data release contains input data and programs (scripts) used to estimate monthly water demand for retail customers of Providence Water, located in Providence, Rhode Island. Explanatory data and model outputs are from July 2014 through June 2021. Models of per capita (for single-family residential customers) or per connection (for multi-family residential, commercial, and industrial customers)

Surface and subsurface geologic data from previous USGS studies of the Gulf Coast region, south-central United States

This dataset captures in digital form the results of previously published U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Water Mission Area studies related to water resource assessment of Cenozoic strata and unconsolidated deposits within the Mississippi Embayment and the Gulf Coastal Plain of the south-central United States. The data are from reports published from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s by the Gulf Coas

Point locations and species and behavioral identifications of colonial nesting seabirds on Maine's coastal islands interpreted from 2019 plane-based imagery

This dataset includes XY coordinates and species and behavioral observations of birds detected in aerial imagery captured over coastal islands along Maine's coast during 30 May. - 3 June 2019. The Partenavia P.68 Observer plane flew over 268 islands within the Gulf of Maine (GOM). The plane flew at an altitude of 310 m above ground level and was equipped with a PhaseOne iXU-RS1000 (100 megapixel)
