USGS provides unbiased, objective, and impartial scientific information upon which our audiences, including resource managers, planners, and other entities, rely.
Our programs produce accurate geologic maps and 3-D geologic frameworks that provide critical data for sustaining and improving the quality of life and economic vitality of the Nation. They also organize, maintain, and publish the geospatial baseline of the Nation's topography, natural landscape, built environment and more.

Geologic map of the Arctic Quadrangle, Alaska
Introduction The Arctic quadrangle is well located to shed light on the basic geologic relations of northern Alaska. The rocks represent all of the stratigraphic systems from Cambrian to Cretaceous and all but one of the tectono-stratigraphic subterranes of the Brooks Range, from the autochthonous subterrane in the north to the allochthonous subterranes farther south. Among the distinctive geologi

Geologic map of the Silver Lake Quadrangle, Cowlitz County, Washington
This digital map database, compiled from previously published and unpublished data, and new mapping by the authors, represents the general distribution of bedrock and surficial deposits of the Silver lake 7.5 minute quadrangle. The database delineates map units that are identified by general age and lithology following the stratigraphic nomenclature of the U.S. Geological Survey. The scale of the

Geologic Map of Part of the Uinkaret Volcanic Field, Mohave County, Northwestern Arizona
The geologic map of part of the Uinkaret Volcanic Field is one product of a cooperative project between the
U.S. Geological Survey, the National Park Service, and the Bureau of Land Management to provide geologic
information about this part of the Grand Canyon-Parashant Canyon National Monument of Arizona. The Uinkaret
Volcanic Field is a unique part of western Grand Canyon where volcanic rocks

Geologic map of the Tularosa Mountains 30' x 60' quadrangle, Catron County, New Mexico
This digital map database was compiled from previously published and unpublished data by the author and USGS colleagues, and from published maps by others, as indicated in figure 3 on the map sheet. A pamphlet included with the map provides a brief discussion of the geology of the quadrangle, a description of map units, and references cited.
Arsenic in stream sediments of northern Alabama
OVERVIEW OF ARSENIC IN STREAM SEDIMENTS The overall range of arsenic in the NURE stream sediments was from 0.3 to 44 mg/kg sediment (ppm) As in the sample data set. The mean value was 4.3 ppm with a standard deviation of 4.1 ppm. For comparison, the crustal abundance of arsenic is 1.8 ppm (Taylor, 1964). Shale is higher, with average values of 15 ppm. Coal samples from the entire USGS National Coa
Map of normal faults and extensional folds in the Tendoy Mountains and Beaverhead Range, Southwest Montana and eastern Idaho
Compilation of a 1:100,000-scale map of normal faults and extensional folds in southwest Montana and adjacent Idaho reveals a complex history of normal faulting that spanned at least the last 50 m.y. and involved six or more generations of normal faults. The map is based on both published and unpublished mapping and shows normal faults and extensional folds between the valley of the Red Rock River
