Maps

Our programs produce accurate geologic maps and 3-D geologic frameworks that provide critical data for sustaining and improving the quality of life and economic vitality of the Nation. They also organize, maintain, and publish the geospatial baseline of the Nation's topography, natural landscape, built environment and more.

Geochemical map of the Guadalupe Escarpment Wilderness Study Area, Eddy County, New Mexico

During 1982, the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Bureau of Mines conducted field investigations to evaluate the mineral resource potential of the Guadalupe Escarpment Wilderness Study Area. Field studies included geologic mapping, geochemical sampling, and a survey of known mines, prospects, and mineralized zones. This map presents the results of a geochemical survey of the area by the Geologi

Geochemical map of the Rattlesnake Roadless Area, Coconino and Yavapai counties, Arizona

The geochemical survey of the Rattlesnake Roadless Area was conducted in May 1982 by the U.S. Geological Survey to aid in a mineral resource appraisal of the area. A total of 114 stream-sediment samples, 68 heavy-mineral concentrates from stream sediment, 20 rock samples, and 4 water samples was collected by S.C. Rose, D.E. Hendzel, and W.J. Gerstel, with helicopter support from Jack Ruby, pilot f

The geochemical survey of the Wet Beaver Roadless Area was conducted in May 1982 by the U.S. Geological Survey to aid in a mineral resource appraisal of the area. A total of 64 stream-sediment samples, 30 heavy-mineral concentrates from stream sediment, 7 rock samples, and 7 water samples was collected by S.C. Rose, D.E. Hendzel, and W.J. Geochemical maps of the Ellicott Rock Wilderness and additions, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia

The Ellicot Rock Wilderness comprises 3,332 acres in parts of Sumter, Nantahala and Chattahoochee National Forests. The Ellicott Rock Extension would expand wilderness boundaries in these national forests by 5,600 acres. The Ellicott Rock Extension, 5,512 acres and the Persimmon Mountain Area, 6,678 acres, are both in Sumter National Forest.

Geochemical maps of the Southern Massanutten Roadless Area, Page and Rockingham counties, Virginia

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) made a reconnaissance geochemical survey of the Southern Massanutten Roadless Area to test for indistinct or unexposed mineral deposits that might be recognized by their geochemical halos.  Sixty-two stream-sediment and 52 rock samples were collected from within and near the study area by Lesure, assisted by J. H. DeYoung, Jr. (USGS) and A. E. Grosz (USGS) in Octo
