Geologic map of the Mare Acidalium Quadrangle, Mars (Revised)

Mare Acidalium is one of the dark areas on the map of Mars of Schiaparelli (1886). Acidalia Planitia, a large, low-albedo depression lying as low as 3 km below the Martian datum (U.S. Geological Survey, 1976) makes up much of the Mare Acidalium quadrangle. Arabia Terra and Tempe Terra bound Acidalia Planitia to the southeast and southwest, respectively. Chryse Planitia is south and Vastitas Boreal

Geologic map of the Mare Boreum area of Mars

The Mare Boreum geologic map portrays the north polar area of Mars above lat 65˚ N. The area contains five physiographic provinces: (1) a residual ice cap characterized by troughs with a counterclockwise outward spiral pattern (Mariner 9 frames DAS 13317550 and DAS 13353320); (2) layered terrain adjacent to the ice cap, exposed within the spiral troughs; (3) a circumpolar band of low-albedo materi
