Northeast and Southeast CASC Tribal Climate Resilience Liaisons hosted a week-long Tribal Climate Resilience Camp designed to build community, share knowledge, and develop actionable adaptation plans.

Several scientists and staff from the Northeast and Southeast CASC participated in the 2024 United South and Eastern Tribes Tribal Climate Resilience Camp in Durham, North Carolina this past June. The week-long event was organized by Northeast and Southeast CASC Tribal Climate Resilience Liaisons Casey Thornbrugh and Steph Courtney

Working with CASC members, representatives from five Tribal Nations, federal partners, and university partners, the goal of the camp was to advance Tribal climate adaptation through community-building, informational presentations, and resilience planning. CASC members presented on science partnerships, funding opportunities, and other CASC-funded research, including science related to salt marsh vulnerability that has relevance to several of the participating Tribal Nations. Thornbrugh and Courtney also discussed Tribal data sovereignty and presented on the Tribal Adaptation Menu, an adaptation resource that integrates Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Western Science.

Camp participants then had the opportunity to break out into teams to develop adaptation plans they could implement to support climate resilience programs in their communities.
