Chemical and isotopic composition of produced waters from the lower Eagle Ford Group, south-central Texas

This dataset contains chemical and isotopic data from 39 produced water samples collected from sealed separators containing water from horizontal hydrocarbon wells in the lower Eagle Ford Group. The samples were collected from Lavaca and Gonzales counties, Texas in December, 2015. All wells had been in production for longer than 6 months and had produced more than 10,000 barrels (~160,000 liters)

Coking coal of the United States: Modern and historical locations of coking coal mining locations and chemical, rheological, petrographic, and other data from modern samples

For the open-file report we collected new coking coal samples from Alabama, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Arkansas and analyzed them for proximate and ultimate analyses; calorific value; sulfur forms; major-, minor-, and trace-element abundances; free swelling indices; Gieseler plasticity; ASTM dilatation; coal petrography, and several other tests [air-dry loss (ADL), residual moisture (RM), equilibrium

Apatite and zircon U/Pb and fission track geochronologic and thermochronologic data along the Fall Line of the southeastern United States

This data release contains apatite and zircon U/Pb and fission track data for six samples collected along the Fall Line of the southeastern United States, from Virginia to the Georgia-South Carolina border. The data resolve phases of rapid exhumational cooling in the Permo-Triassic, additional cooling in the Jurassic-Early Cretaceous and slower cooling since the middle of the Cretaceous. The data

National assessment of carbon dioxide enhanced oil recovery and associated carbon dioxide retention resources - data release

In 2020, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) completed a probabilistic assessment of the volume of technically recoverable oil resources available if current carbon dioxide enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR) technologies were applied in amenable oil reservoirs underlying the onshore and State waters area of the conterminous United States. The assessment also includes estimates of the magnitude of CO2 s

Geologic formations and mine locations for potential CO2 mineralization

This geodatabase contains geologic unit boundaries and asbestos site locations shown in "Carbon dioxide mineralization feasibility in the United States" (Blondes and others, 2019). Data was compiled from source material at a scale range of 1:100,000 to 1:5,000,000 and is not intended for any greater detail.

Solid bitumen and vitrinite reflectance suppression explored using hydrous pyrolysis of artificial source rock (2021)

The most commonly used parameter for thermal maturity calibration in basin modelling is mean random vitrinite reflectance (Ro). However, Ro suppression, or lower than expected Ro, has been noted in samples containing a high proportion of liptinite macerals. This has been empirically demonstrated using hydrous pyrolysis experiments of artificial source rock containing various proportions of thermal

Reflectance and confocal laser scanning fluorescence spectroscopy of bituminite in Kimmeridge Clay

This work investigates the characterization of bituminite (amorphous sedimentary organic matter) in Kimmeridge Clay source rock via confocal laser canning microscopy (CLSM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). As part of an International Committee for Coal and Organic Petrology working group, an immature (0.42% vitrinite reflectance), organic-rich (44.1 wt.% total organic carbon content) sample of K

USGS Contributions to the Nevada Geothermal Machine Learning Project (DE-FOA-0001956): Heat Flow Data

This package contains a map surface that depicts the estimated spatial variation of conductive heat flow (mW/m?) in a portion of northern Nevada, the extent of the ?Nevada Machine Learning Project? (DE-EE0008762). It was generated using well locations that had an estimated heat flow value from a measured thermal gradient and thermal conductivity, mainly using data from Southern Methodist Universit

USGS Contributions to the Nevada Geothermal Machine Learning Project (DE-FOA-0001956): Slip and Dilation Tendency Data

This package contains data in a portion of northern Nevada, the extent of the ?Nevada Machine Learning Project? (DE-EE0008762). Slip tendency (TS) and dilation tendency (TD) were calculated for the all the faults in the Nevada ML study area. TS is the ratio between the shear components of the stress tensor and the normal components of the stress tensor acting on a fault plane. TD is the ratio of a

USGS Contributions to the Nevada Geothermal Machine Learning Project (DE-FOA-0001956): Geophysics, Heat Flow, Slip and Dilation Tendency

This package contains USGS data contributions to the DOE-funded Nevada Geothermal Machine Learning Project (DE-FOA-0001956), with the objective of developing a machine learning approach to identifying new geothermal systems in the Great Basin. This package contains three major data products (geophysics, heat flow, and fault dilation and slip tendencies) that cover a large portion of northern Nevad

USGS Contributions to the Nevada Geothermal Machine Learning Project (DE-FOA-0001956): Geophysics Data

This package contains gravity and magnetics data and products generated for the Nevada Machine Learning (NVML) project (DE-FOA-0001956). Data products contained in this release consist of grids and vector data. Grids include: primary anomaly maps (isostatic and PSG), match-filtered maps, horizontal gradient (HG) maps, confidence maps, and maps showing density of specific key structural features. T

Chemistry Data from the Birney Test Site, Montana, 2018-2020

Data were collected to monitor geochemistry before and after an injection designed to stimulate microbial methanogenesis in the shallow Flowers-Goodale coal bed, near Birney in southeastern Montana. Waters from wells completed in the Flowers-Goodale, Nance, Knobloch, and Terret coalbeds at the Birney Test Site were sampled. Geochemical characterization of the water included non-purgeable dissolved
