Age of biostratigraphic horizons within the Ordovician and Silurian systems

Three samples that have a bearing on the age of horizons within the Ordovician and Silurian systems, two previously dated by the conventional K-Ar method and one by the 40Ar/39 Ar total-fusion method, have been reanalysed using the 40Ar/39Ar age-spectrum method. Conventional K-Ar and total-fusion 40Ar/39Ar ages can always be questioned because of the relative ease with which the K-Ar system can be

Geologic evolution of the United States Atlantic Margin

This volume compiles the significant findings which began to be accumulated in 1974 during offshore petroleum explorations in the Atlantic Continental Shelf. It's the first presentation of current geological data from the U.S. Atlantic Margin from the inner edge of the coastal plain to the deep sea. A seismic grid of several thousand seismic reflection profiles is correlated with 48 deep borings a

Presence and effects of the dog louse Trichodectes canis (Mallophaga, Trichodectidae) on wolves and coyotes from Minnesota and Wisconsin

The dog louse was found on 19 wolves (Canis lupus) and six coyotes (C. latrans) from Minnesota and Wisconsin during the July-February, 1973 through 1983, period. No evidence was found that lice had any serious effect on wolf survival.

Production and characterization of monoclonal antibody against infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus

A hybridoma cell line that continually secretes antibody against infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus was developed and designated M-IHNV-W1. Antibodies in culture fluids were concentrated and purified by Protein A Sepharose CL-4B affinity chromatography. The immunoglobulin was isotyped as IgG 2b with a kappa light chain. The IgG was specific for infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus and had

Contaminant residues in fish and sediments from lakes in the Atchafalaya River Basin (Louisiana)

Conversion of bottomland hardwood forests ℴ agricultural land has reduced habitat and water quality in many lakes in the floodplain of the lower Mississippi River. The objectives of this study were to ascertain current contaminant residue concentrations in fish and sediment from lakes in the Atchafalaya River Basin and to determine the influence of overflow and agricultural land use on contaminant

Dynamics of a black-capped chickadee population, 1958-1983

The dynamics of a wintering population of Black—capped Chickadees (Parus atricapillus) were studied from 1958—1983 using capture—recapture methods. The Jolly—Seber model was used to obtain annual estimates of population size, survival rate, and recruitment. The average estimated population size over this period was °160 birds. The average estimated number of new birds entering the population each
