Drought of 1980-82 in southeast Florida with comparison to the 1961-62 and 1970-71 droughts

South-central Florida (the Kissimmee Basin) experienced a severe drought during 1980-82, causing Lake Okeechobee--the largest surface-water storage area in south Florida--to reach the lowest stage ever recorded, 9.75 feet above sea level, on July 29, 1981. A prolonged period of deficient rainfall extended from June 1980 to March 1982. On the southeast coast, drought conditions were mitigated on Au

Frequency and duration of flooding of Grove Creek near Kenansville, North Carolina, for present and proposed restored channel conditions

The Grove Creek basin includes an area of about 42 square miles in Duplin County, southeastern North Carolina. The North Carolina Department of Human Resources (DHR) proposes to implement a channel restoration project on about an eight-mile reach of Grove Creek. The purpose of the restoration program is to improve drainage, thereby reducing frequency and duration of overbank flooding and reducing

Potential impacts of discharging tertiary-treated wastewater into Port Royal Sound, South Carolina

An assessment of physical characteristics of Port Royal Sound was combined with the results of a dye tracer study and with data collected from a previous environmental study to describe the impact on the water quality from discharging tertiary treated wastewater into the sound. Calculated velocities for the time of maximum velocity in the tidal cycle ranged from 2.32 ft/sec near the bottom to 4.65

Simulation of the flow system of Barton Springs and associated Edwards Aquifer in the Austin area, Texas

A digital model of two-dimensional groundwater flow was used to estimate the hydraulic properties of the Edwards Aquifer in a 151 sq mi area near Austin, Texas. The transmissivity, hydraulic conductivity, and specific yield were estimated for the part of the aquifer that discharges at Barton Springs in Austin. The aquifer is composed of the Edwards and overlying Georgetown Limestones of Cretaceous

Statistical summary of water-quality data collected from selected wells and springs in the Edwards Aquifer near San Antonio, Texas

Statistical summaries of available water-quality data collected from 90 wells and 3 springs in the Edwards aquifer near San Antonio, Texas, are presented. The statistical summaries provide information on the range in values for each water-quality constituent as well as the mean value, the standard deviation about the mean; and for those constituents with five or more analyses, the percentage of ob

Ground-water flow in the Coastal Plain aquifers of South Carolina

The characteristics of the Coastal Plain aquifers of South Carolina are being studied as a part of the Regional Aquifer System Analysis program of the United States Geological Survey. Potentiometric maps were constructed for the Middendorf aquifer of Cretaceous age and for the Floridan aquifer system and its sand facies equivalent, Tertiary sand aquifer, prior to development. Also constructed was

Water resources data, Texas, water year 1984; Volume 2. San Jacinto River basin, Brazos River basin, San Bernard River basin, and intervening coastal basins

Surface-water data for the 1984 water year for Texas are presented in three volumes, appropriately identified as to content by river basins. Data in each volume consist of records of stage, discharge, and water quality of streams and canals; and stage, contents, and water quality of lakes and reservoirs. Also included are crest-stage and flood-hydrograph partial-record stations, reconnaissance par
