David Powars

 David Powars is a Scientist Emeritus at the Florence Bascom Geoscience Center.

USGS Research Geologist: Geology and Paleoclimate Science Center, Reston VA.  Presently task leader of geological investigation of Coastal Plain (CP) deposits in Chesapeake Bay Region (as part of the Atlantic  Watershed Project).  Subsurface and surficial geological mapper.  Focuses on delineating the stratigraphic and structural framework and geological history of the Cretaceous and Tertiary of the Mid-Atlantic Coastal Plain New Jersey to Virginia. As principal discoverer of the Chesapeake Bay impact crater received Virginia Museum of Natural History’s Thomas Jefferson Award for outstanding contributions to science in Virginia. Working on mid-Atlantic Paleochannels, the PETM, and CP seismicity.
