Data

As data are collected from Earth and surrounding bodies in the Solar System, we like to do all we can to make them easily accessible and useable for the needs of our science partners, science community, and for the public.

Technical Letter: NTS-79 Guidebook For Field Trips To The Nevada Test Site

In several respects the Nevada Test Site is located in an area that is especially interesting geologically. It lies along the projected trend of the Walker Lane and the Las Vegas Valley Shear Zone (Locke and others, 1940; Longwell, 1960), one of the major crustal features of the Basin-Range province. The shear zone itself, however, may not continue through the Test Site in a simple way (Burchfiel,

Technical Letter: Astrogeology-11 Apollo Applications Program Investigations Field Test 3

Apollo Applications Program (AAP) Test 3 was held in Flagstaff, Arizona, as an initial feasibility study of rock thin-section preparation and remote television monitoring of the microscopic image, for possible use on AAP missions. During the 18 hours of actual test operations 38 thin sections were prepared. Of these, 25 were examined with a petrographic microscope with a television link to the Co

Annual Report Investigation Of In Situ Physical Properties Of Surface And Subsurface Site Materials By Engineering Geophysical Techniques Project Part 1

This report includes the first substantive body of in situ density, bearing strength, shear strength, and moisture content data measured by Project personnel. Emphasis in this fiscal year's measurements was on low-density materials since available data suggest that the upper meter or so of the lunar surface consists of low-density material.

United States Government Memorandum: Radio Procedures

These suggestions are largely a result of two closely allied factors: first, a tape recording--either direct or one made via radio--should enable· a field geologist to record many more observations per unit time than can be made in a notebook. The observations should be to the point, but there is no reason for them to be cryptic and so potentially ambiguous to another person. Second, persons in a

Experiment Description Document - Surveyor Lunar Roving Vehicle Topographic Mapping

This document is part of the Functional Specifications for the Topographic Mapping Experiment to be carried out by the Surveyor Lunar Roving Vehicle. It includes a description of the experiment along with the accuracies required for meaningful results.

Technical Letter: Astrogeology-9 Early Apollo Investigations Field Test 5

When the Apollo astronauts land on the Moon, their precise location will not be known. The real-time geologic mapping planned for the first mission could best be done if the exact position of the landing site were determined. The astronauts may have to find their position, with or without assistance from the Earth-based scientific mission center, before leaving the Lunar Module (LM), and the less

Cinder Lake Handwritten Notes and Figures

Cinder Lake symbology, unit descriptions, and ideas tested at Cinder Lakes and Verde Valley, northern Arizona.

USGS Database of Mounds in Southwest Utopia Planitia Mars

Dataset contains latitude, longitude and additional attribute information for mounds in the lowlands of Mars. This version of the database contains data for mounds in the southwestern Utopia Planitia region of the martian lowlands.

NASA GIFT Iceland Highlands: 2015-2019 Baugur LiDAR

LiDAR scans were taken using a tripod mounted Riegl VZ-400 scanning LiDAR. The tripod was set up such that the scanner was between 1.5 and 2.5 m tall. The VZ-400 is a near infrared (1550 nm) scanner. Geometric control was achieved using a pair of Trimble RB GPS antennae, one mounted on the LiDAR scanner (rover) and the other setup as a base station. Before taking a LiDAR scan, the VZ-400 would use

PAAD: The Planetary Aeolian Analog Database

The Terrestrial Analogs Data Portal (TADP; https://tadp.astrogeology.usgs.gov/) has been established as a repository and data discovery portal which leverages USGS ScienceBase, a trusted long-term digital repository that provides access to all USGS data services. Creation of the TADP service is in response to a number of NASA-generated reports identifying the need for a permanent planetary analog

Geologic map of the Maskelyne DA region of the moon, Lunar Orbiter site II P-2, southeastern Mare Tranquillitatis including Apollo landing site l

This map shows the geology in and around potential early Apollo landing site 1 in the lunar equatorial belt. The Maskelyne DA region, at the southeastern edge of the Mare Tranquillitatis, is in the area transitional between mare and terra. Patches of typical terra material occur on northwest-trending ridges, and typical heavily cratered mare materials occurs only in the east-central part of the re

(ORB II-13 (100)) Geologic map of the Maestlin G region of the moon, Lunar Orbiter site II P-13, Oceanus Procellarum, including Apollo landing site 5

This map shows the geology in and around potential early Apollo landing site 5 in the lunar equatorial belt. The Maestlin G region is in Oceanus Procellarum, about midway between the crater Kepler to the northeast and Flamsteed to the southwest. Terra materials occur only in the northeast corner of the region. Dark mare covers the remainder, and the entire region is crossed by rays from Kepler. Th
