Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Kinnickinnic River Geochemistry and Rapid Geomorphic Assessments, Waukesha County, Wisconsin

From September 2019 to October 2020 a stream sediment budget and sediment fingerprinting integrated study was conducted to quantify upland and stream corridor sources of suspended sediment and sediment-bound phosphorus using the Sediment Source Assessment Tool (SedSAT) methods with a suite of trace elements. Upland source samples were collected at 45 randomly selected sites in the watershed. Passi

Baseline Groundwater-Quality Data from a Densely Developed Coastal Neighborhood, Falmouth, Massachusetts (June 2016 - March 2024)(ver. 5.0, July 2024)

This data release provides a comprehensive dataset of sampling-site characteristics and baseline groundwater-quality data collected from a network of multilevel sampling wells installed in a densely developed coastal neighborhood undergoing a conversion from onsite septic systems to municipal sewering. Groundwater samples were collected during multiple events from a total of 227 well screens at 15

Lakebed Groundwater and Surface-Water Temperatures on September 18, 2020, at Shubael Pond, Marstons Mills, Massachusetts

This data release contains lakebed groundwater and surface-water temperatures collected during a survey on September 18, 2020, by using a handheld thermocouple probe at Shubael Pond, a groundwater flow-through kettle-hole pond, located in Marstons Mills, Massachusetts. The dataset includes a comma separated values (.csv) file, a geospatial dataset (shapefile), and FGDC-compliant metadata.

Data for Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in groundwater samples collected by the California Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment Priority Basin Project, 2019-2023

The California Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment Program Priority Basin Project (GAMA-PBP) analyzed for per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in groundwater samples collected from domestic and public drinking water supply wells in California. GAMA-PBP is a cooperative program between the U.S. Geological Survey and the California State Water Resources Control Board. This data relea

Simulated Recharge Areas to Surface Waters and Public-Supply Wells with Travel Times Greater Than and Less Than 10 Years For Average 2005-2015 Conditions, Long Island, NY

This data release contains model simulation results of a particle tracking analysis to delineate areas that provide recharge to surface waters and public-supply wells on Long Island, NY. The analysis partitions the recharge areas based on particle travel times of greater than or less than 10 years to reach the receiving surface water or well. The simulation was performed using a regional-scale num

Hydraulic Conductivity and Transmissivity Estimates from Slug Tests in Wells Within the Mississippi Alluvial Plain, Arkansas and Mississippi, 2020

During the spring and summer of 2020, the U.S. Geological Survey, Lower Mississippi – Gulf Water Science Center, conducted single well slug tests on selected wells within the Mississippi Alluvial Plain in Arkansas and Mississippi to estimate hydraulic conductivity (K) and transmissivity (T) values for the aquifers in which the wells are screened. A total of 324 tests were conducted on 48 wells. Th

State-and-Transition Simulation Models to explore post-fire habitat restoration in three greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) Priority Areas for Conservation, USA (2018-2068)

Wildfires are increasingly modifying wildlife habitat in the western United States and managers need ways to scope the pace and degree to which post-fire restoration actions can re-create habitat in dynamic landscapes. We simulated post-fire revegetation and greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) habitat restoration using a spatially explicit state-transition simulation model (STSM) devel

Groundwater-quality data in the Kern County Domestic-Supply Aquifer Study Unit, 2022: Results from the California GAMA Priority Basin Project

The U.S. Geological Survey collected groundwater samples from 33 wells used for domestic and small system drinking water supplies in Kern County, California in 2022. The wells were sampled for the Kern County Domestic-Supply Aquifer Study Unit of the State Water Resources Control Board Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) Program Priority Basin Project’s assessment of the quality o

Estimated crop irrigation water use withdrawals in San Simon Valley Groundwater Subbasin of the Safford Groundwater Basin, Arizona for 2022

Observations of irrigated agricultural land within the San Simon Valley Groundwater Subbasin of the Safford Groundwater Basin. Digitized field boundaries were used to locate crops for in situ verification twice in 2022; crop verification occurred first on May 18th and again on August 24th. Field boundaries were digitized from U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agricultural Imagery Program Co

Estimated crop irrigation water use withdrawals in Hualapai Valley Groundwater Basin, Arizona for 2022

Observations of irrigated agricultural land within the Hualapai Valley Groundwater Basin in Arizona. Digitized field boundaries were used to locate crops for in situ verification once in 2022; crop verification occurred on June 2nd. Field boundaries were digitized from U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agricultural Imagery Program County Mosaic 2021 imagery for Arizona and supplemented with

NGWOS Ground Based Discrete Snowpack Measurements

Ground-based discrete snowpack measurements were collected during winter field campaigns starting in 2020. These data were collected as part of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) Upper Colorado River Basin project focusing on the relation between snow dynamics and water resources. This data release consists of three child items. Each child item contain

Images and annotations to automate the classification of avian species

This dataset is a collection of cropped avian images that pair with species identification annotation values.
