Software

The USGS Water Resources Mission Area provides water information that is fundamental to national and local economic well-being, protection of life and property, and effective management of the Nation’s water resources. Below, find software for a wide range of water resources research and management questions.

Groundwater Age Mixtures & Contaminant Trends Tool (GAMACTT)

Use this Groundwater Age Mixtures and Contaminant Trends Tool (GAMACTT) to explore the effects of basic aquifer properties and well configurations on groundwater age mixtures in groundwater discharge and on contaminant trends from varying nonpoint-source contaminant input scenarios.

FLASH-R (Flow-Log Analysis of Single Holes)

FLASH-R (Flow-Log Analysis of Single Holes) is an R app for the analysis of borehole vertical flow logs to estimate fracture (or layer) transmissivities and far-field hydraulic heads. This app is a new version of the FLASH spreadsheet tool by Day-Lewis et al. (2011) . The program is written in R, an open-source environment. All previous features have been retained and new features incorporated i

FLASH-R: Flow-Log Analysis of Single Holes

FLASH-R (Flow-Log Analysis of Single Holes) is an R app for the analysis of borehole vertical flow logs to estimate fracture (or layer) transmissivities and far-field hydraulic heads.

DTSGUI

DTSGUI is a  USGS software tool to import, manage, parse/cull, georeference, analyze and visualize fiber-optic distributed temperature sensor data.

RSPARROW

RSPARROW, now available on the USGS GitLab repository, provides the first open-source version of the USGS SPARROW water-quality model

nhdplusTools: Tools for Accessing and Working with the NHDPlus

Tools for traversing and working with National Hydrography Dataset Plus (NHDPlus) data. All methods implemented in 'nhdplusTools' are available in the NHDPlus documentation available from the US Environmental Protection Agency https://www.epa.gov/waterdata/basic-information.

GCLAS (Graphical Constituent Loading Analysis System): A tool for computing loads of constituents transported in rivers

GCLAS is a program designed to compute daily and annual loadings of constituents transported in rivers.

MT3D-USGS: Groundwater Solute Transport Simulator for MODFLOW

MT3D-USGS is a USGS updated release of the groundwater solute transport code MT3DMS. MT3D-USGS includes new transport modeling capabilities to accommodate flow terms calculated by MODFLOW packages that were previously unsupported by MT3DMS and to provide greater flexibility in the simulation of solute transport and reactive solute transport.

NetCDF-CF Geometry and Timeseries Tools for R

Tools to create time series and geometry 'NetCDF' files.

An Open Source Spreadsheet for Calculation of Equivalent Freshwater Altitude in Brackish Water Mixing Zone of an Aquifer with Documentation on Appropriate Use

This software release documents an open source spreadsheet that was developed by the USGS in 2007 and modified herein for general use for calculation of equivalent freshwater altitude at wells where the water quality data indicate the well is tapping brackish areas of an aquifer system. One example of this includes coastal wells in the diffusion/mixing or transition zone of the aquifer near the fr

Point-Source Load Estimation Tool (PSLoadEsT)

Software for generating reproducible load calculations for point source dischargers.  Includes features to manage common data challenges such as duplicates, incompatible input tables, and missing nutrient concentration or effluent flow data.

MODFLOW-2005: USGS Three-Dimensional Finite-Difference Ground-Water Model

MODFLOW 6 is presently the core MODFLOW version distributed by the USGS, but MODFLOW-2005 (the previous core version) is still actively maintained and supported. MODFLOW-2005 simulates steady and nonsteady flow in an irregularly shaped flow system in which aquifer layers can be confined, unconfined, or a combination of confined and unconfined.
