Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Accumulated wastewater calculations for smallmouth bass sampling sites in the Shenandoah River Watershed, USA

This data release presents calculated accumulated wastewater (ACCWW, as a percent of total streamflow) values for 43 National Hydrologic Dataset Version 2.1 (NHDPlus V2.1) stream segments coinciding with long-term smallmouth bass sampling locations (Table 1) in the Shenandoah River Watershed (encompassing parts of Virginia and West Virginia, USA). Values are calculated for quarter-year (Quarter 1

Evaluating a tandem human-machine approach to labelling of wildlife in remote camera monitoring

Remote cameras (“trail cameras”) are a popular tool for non-invasive, continuous wildlife monitoring, and as they become more prevalent in wildlife research, machine learning (ML) is increasingly used to automate or accelerate the labor-intensive process of labelling (i.e., tagging) photos. Human-machine hybrid tagging approaches have been shown to greatly increase tagging efficiency (i.e., time t

Data for Estimating McKay's Bunting (Plectrophenax hyperboreus) Population Change on St. Matthew and Hall Islands, Alaska

This dataset consists of three tables relating to (1) detections of adult McKay's Buntings from line transect with distance estimation surveys on St. Matthew and Hall islands in Alaska between May 30 and June 29, 2003 and June 6 and 11, 2018, (2) environmental covariates associated with detections of adult McKay's Buntings in less than or equal to 250-m long contiguous transect segments, and (3) e

Airborne magnetic and radiometric survey, Boulder Batholith region, Montana, 2022

This data release provides digital flight line data for a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over parts of Montana in the vicinity of the Boulder Batholith. The airborne survey was jointly funded by the Earth Mapping Resources Initiative and Kennecott Exploration Company. The survey was designed to meet complementary needs related to geologic mapping and characterization of m

Vegetation and soil cover from 134 reclaimed oil and gas well pads and 583 AIM reference plots in the Southwestern United States

These data were compiled to assess the recovery of vegetation on reclaimed oil and gas sites. Objective(s) of our study were to assess patterns in reclamation outcomes relative to 1) soil attributes, climate, and time since 39 reclamation and 2) plant and soil reference benchmarks. These data represent observations of vegetation and soil cover from 134 reclaimed oil and gas well pads and 583 AIM r

A Geological Approach To The Meteorites

Incorporated into USGS OpenFile Report #1094, "The Geologic Classification of the Meteorites", these materials were written by Donald Elston and contain figures, photos, and charts to help astronauts (who were not trained geologists) be able to identify and articulately describe the geologic observations they made on the lunar surface.

Annual Report Investigation Of In Situ Physical Properties Of Surface And Subsurface Site Materials By Engineering Geophysical Techniques Project Part 1

This report includes the first substantive body of in situ density, bearing strength, shear strength, and moisture content data measured by Project personnel. Emphasis in this fiscal year's measurements was on low-density materials since available data suggest that the upper meter or so of the lunar surface consists of low-density material.

Apollo Science Program, Mission Profile Study

Details of field exercises to assess the readiness of astronauts to perform geologic investigations on the lunar surface. They include landscape description, geologic mapping, mobile traverse descriptions, impact crater description, depression description, and detailed mapping.

Astronaut Lecture of H. J. Moore

The main idea behind this slide presentation is to develope a general philosophy on: 1) lunar impact cratering processes, 2) characteristics of impact craters and ejecta as a function of target material and, size, 3) the effects of layered targets on impact crater morphology, and 4) illustration of the above for lunar sites.

Experiment Description Document - Surveyor Lunar Roving Vehicle Topographic Mapping

This document is part of the Functional Specifications for the Topographic Mapping Experiment to be carried out by the Surveyor Lunar Roving Vehicle. It includes a description of the experiment along with the accuracies required for meaningful results.
