Design of packed columns for commercial oxygen addition and dissolved nitrogen removal based on effluent criteria

Successful application of the packed column in fish culture requires a design based not only on oxygen supplementation rates (kg/day), or other standard performance indicators such as oxygen absorption efficiency (kg absorbed/kg applied) or transfer efficiency (kg/kWh), bvt also on dissolved nitrogen and total dissolved gas pressure limits and predicted changes across the system. Such a design pro

Immunological discrimination of Atlantic striped bass stocks

Stocks of Atlantic striped bass Morone saxatilis that were assumed to be geographically isolated during spawning showed strong antigenic differences in blood serum albumin. A discriminant function was estimated from the immunologic responses of northern (Canadian and Hudson River) and southern (Chesapeake Bay and Roanoke River) stocks to two reference antisera. The function correctly classified 92

Ultrastructure of the spleen and head kidney of striped bass

The spleen and head kidney of striped bass Morone saxatilis were examined by electron microscopy, including examination of ultrastructural localization of peroxidase. The spleen is composed of a loosely organized reticulum that supports the red and white pulp. The principal hematopoietic and mature blood cells observed were erythrocytes, erythroblasts, lymphocytes, macrophages, thrombocytes, and a
