Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Data release for Quantitative method development to determine feed consumption using a dye

The goal of this study was to develop a simple, cost effective method to mark fish through oral delivery of an indicator that could be qualitatively and quantitively assessed based on consumption. Our objectives were to 1) determine the concentration of orally administered Sudan Black B required for qualitative confirmation of ingestion, 2) trace the biodistribution of Sudan Black B in several fis

Bathymetric and Topographic Survey of the Platte River and associated chutes near the Nebraska Army National Guard Camp Ashland Training Site, 2019-2020

These data are the survey results from a five-mile section of the Platte River at, and upstream of the Nebraska Army National Guard Camp Ashland Training Site including the side channel chutes on the east bank. All survey data were collected along planned transect lines that were spaced 492.125 US survey feet apart beginning near the mouth of the Elkhorn River and ending near the U.S. Highway 6 br

Organic petrology of Cretaceous Mowry and Niobrara source-rock reservoirs, Powder River Basin, Wyoming, USA

Imaging of Niobrara Formation and Mowry Shale samples from a range of thermal maturities provided observations and data on pore systems, organic matter (OM) types and associations with mineralogy and fabric, wettability, and microporosity associated with both diagenetic and detrital clays. Imaging techniques included scanning electron microscopy, organic petrography and correlative scanning electr

Fish community assessment using environmental DNA metabarcoding data after an invasive species eradication and native restocking effort in Pinecrest Gardens, FL in 2017-18

Reported here are the metabarcoding read numbers and biomass data assessed from a fish community in a southern Florida pond in Pinecrest Gardens after invasive species eradication and native restocking in 2017 and 2018 in linear regression models. This dataframe contains the number of fish of each species identified, their measured lengths estimated population surface area, and the number of metab

Bathymetry and topography, video observation, and derived benthic habitat data offshore of Burien, Washington

In 2010, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 10, initiated the Puget Sound Scientific Studies and Technical Investigations Assistance Program, which was designed to support research for implementing the Puget Sound Action Agenda. The Action Agenda was created because Puget Sound was designated as one of 28 estuaries of National Significance under section 320 of the Clean Water Act, an

Microfossil, grain size, and petrographic data for the Cabin Branch and Cabin Creek (Cappy Avenue) outcrops, Prince George's County, Maryland

The Cabin Branch and Cabin Creek (Cappy Avenue) outcrops are located along two small creeks in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The Cabin Branch outcrop contains exposures of silty sands of the Upper Cretaceous Severn Formation, and both outcrops contain Paleocene silty quartz and glauconitic sands of the Danian Brightseat Formation and highly fossiliferous glauconitic quartz sands of the Selandi

Data to Fit an Occupancy Model to Trapping Data for the Northwestern Pond Turtle and Red-Eared Slider in the Sacramento Valley (2018) and Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta (2019)

These data represent the results of trapping efforts for native northwestern pond turtles (Actinemys marmorata) and non-native red-eared sliders (Trachemys scripta elegans) in wetlands and irrigation canals in agricultural regions of the Sacramento Valley in 2018 and the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta in 2019. In addition to detection data for these two turtle species, the dataset includes hab

Chlorophyll-a concentrations and algal bloom condition paired with Sentinel-2 aquatic reflectance values collected for Brownlee Reservoir, ID from 2015 through 2020

This data release presents two calibration datasets that relate aquatic reflectance derived from Sentinel-2 satellite imagery with algal bloom conditions in the Brownlee Reservoir on the Idaho Oregon border. These datasets were developed to evaluate remote sensing methods for identifying algal blooms in Brownlee Reservoir like those from July 2022 that are illustrated in field photo (left) and sat

USGS North American Packrat Midden Database, Version 5.0

This data release contains the data tables for the USGS North American Packrat Midden Database (version 5.0). This version of the Midden Database contains data for 3,331 packrat midden samples obtained from published sources (journal articles, book chapters, theses, dissertations, government and private industry reports, conference proceedings) as well as unpublished data contributed by researche

Water-surface profile map files for the Mississippi River near Prairie Island, Welch, Minnesota, 2019

Four digital water-surface profile maps for a 14-mile reach of the Mississippi River near Prairie Island in Welch, Minnesota from the confluence of the St. Croix River at Prescott, Wisconsin to upstream of the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Lock and Dam No. 3 in Welch, Minnesota, were created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Prairie Island Indian Communit

Streamflow regressions and annual and semimonthly exceedance probability statistics for wild and scenic rivers, Owyhee Canyonlands Wilderness, Idaho

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management, used streamflow measurements at 11 partial-record sites and related them to nearby USGS or Idaho Power Company real-time streamgages (index sites) to provide daily mean streamflow values at ungaged (partial-record) sites within the Wild and Scenic River of the Owyhee Canyonlands Wilderness, Idaho. Daily mean stre

Water-Quality, Bed-Sediment, and Invertebrate Tissue Trace-Element Concentrations for Tributaries in the Clark Fork Basin, Montana, October 2019–September 2020

Water, bed sediment, and invertebrate tissue were sampled in streams from Butte to near Missoula, Montana, as part of a monitoring program in the Clark Fork Basin. The sampling program was completed by the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, to characterize aquatic resources in the Clark Fork Basin and monitor trace elements associated with histori
