Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Probability of nitrate concentrations exceeding multiple thresholds in shallow groundwater, Mid-Atlantic Region of the United States
This data release consists of rasters representing the probability of exceeding multiple thresholds of nitrate in shallow groundwater for the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. Each raster represents the results from multiple spatial-probability models that were developed using U.S. Geological Survey water-quality data in conjunction with geographic data such as land cover, geology, and soi
Data from Decadal Change in Groundwater Quality Web Site, 1988-2021
Evaluating Decadal Changes in Groundwater Quality: Groundwater-quality data were collected from 5,000 wells between 1988-2001 (first decadal sampling event) by the National Water-Quality Assessment Project. Samples are collected in groups of 20-30 wells with similar characteristics called networks. About 1,500 of these wells in 67 networks were sampled again approximately 10 years later between 20
Central Valley Hydrologic Model version 2 (CVHM2): Model Setup Files
The model setup of the updated Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM2) is similar to the original Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM). The differences in the model setup are described here as either model discretization, tidal influence, or drain flow. For model discretization, CVHM2 has 13 layers compared to 10 in CVHM. Tidal data for the San Francisco Bay and its influence on the general head
Shapefiles of hydrogeologic unit extents and top-surface altitude contours used in the revised hydrogeologic framework for the Virginia Coastal Plain Southwest of the James River
A revision to the hydrogeologic framework of the Virginia coastal plain southwest of the James River was developed by USGS during 2019-2021. This revision includes modifications to existing understanding of the groundwater system in Prince George, Surry, Sussex, Isle of Wight, and Southampton counties and the cities of Franklin and Suffolk in southeast Virginia. This USGS data release contains a c
Digital database of the previously published Geologic maps and cross sections showing configurations of bedrock surfaces, Broken Bow 1 degree x 2 degree quadrangle, east-central Nebraska
This digital data release contains spatial datasets of bedrock geology, volcanic ash bed locations, test hole locations, bedrock outcrops, and structure contours of the top of bedrock and the base of the Ogallala Group from a previously published map (Souders, 2000). The GeologicMap feature dataset contains separate feature classes for the Ogallala Group map unit (ContactsAndFaults and MapUnitPoly
United States Documented Unplugged Orphaned Oil and Gas Well Dataset
The United States Documented Unplugged Orphaned Oil and Gas Well (DOW) dataset contains 117,672 wells in 27 states. The definition of an orphaned oil or gas well varies across data sources; the dataset includes oil or gas wells where the state indicates that the well is an unplugged orphan, or the following criteria are met: 1) no production for an average of 12 months (6 to 24 months depending on
Historical Spawning Sites for Lake Whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis) and Cisco (Coregonus artedi) in Lake Ontario and Connecting Channels, 1860-1970
The following data release contains coordinates for suspected historical spawning locations of lake whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis) and cisco (Coregonus artedi) across the Lake Ontario basin, including the Niagara River and St. Lawrence River. These data were gathered from published and unpublished sources cited in the Atlas of the Spawning and Nursery Areas of Great Lakes Fishes (Goodyear et a
Hourly GPS Locations, Associated Habitat Condition, and Annotated Life History State for Training Machine Learned Models of Waterfowl Daily Activity
These data represent an annotated training data for machine learned life history classification of the daily activity of dabbling ducks (f. Anatidae sf. Anatinae) using hourly GPS data. Each row of data represents a single GPS location for one of 5 species of dabbling duck. Note: the machine learned model was developed to be general across sf. Anatinae and does not include specific reference to th
USGS Occupancy Surveys for Dixie Valley Toads, Anaxyrus williamsi, in Churchill County, Nevada from April 2018 to May 2021
Desert spring wetlands host many endemic species that require aquatic habitat and are isolated by the surrounding xeric terrestrial habitat. The Dixie Valley Toad (Anaxyrus williamsi) is a recently described anuran species endemic to desert spring wetlands in the Dixie Valley, Churchill County, Nevada, USA. Given this species was only recently recognized as distinct from Anaxyrus boreas, little is
Peak-flow frequency analysis for U.S. Geological Survey streamgage 05465500 Iowa River at Wapello, Iowa, based on data through water year 2021
This data release presents a peak-flow frequency analysis (Eash and others, 2013) for U.S. Geological Survey streamgage 05465500 Iowa River at Wapello, Iowa. These methods are used to provide estimates of peak-flow quantiles corresponding to the 50-, 20-, 10-, 4-, 2-, 1-, 0.5-, and 0.2-percent annual exceedance probabilities (AEPs). Annual peak-flow data used in the peak-flow frequency analysis fo
Datasheets associated with borehole sampling of surficial sediments in Northern Virginia and Southern Maryland conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey for the Federal Highways Administration Turner-Fairbanks Research Center In Situ Scour Testing Device
This spreadsheet contains the results of open-bore auger samples collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in Maryland and Virginia for the Federal Highways Administration Turner-Fairbanks Highway Research Center. 19 sites were selected in 14 different locations across northern Virginia and southern Maryland by FBGC scientists to drill boreholes for the development of the TFHRC?s In-situ Scour Testi
Grain-Size Data From Sediment Samples at Seven Mile Island, New Jersey and Rockaway Peninsula, New York
Sediment grab samples were collected from one onshore location and 32 undisturbed locations along the seafloor around Seven Mile Island, New Jersey (NJ) and Rockaway Peninsula, New York (NY). The sediment grab samples were collected in May and June of 2021 at locations within the area where multibeam bathymetry surveys were also conducted during the same trip. All sediment samples were analyzed us
