Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Ground-based gamma spectrometry data collected in northern Maine (Version 2.0, September 2022)

Radiometric (gamma spectrometry) measurements were made during walking surveys in northern Maine using a GF Instruments Gamma Surveyor. These surveys involved recording measurement averages over 30-second intervals while holding the instrument approximately 1 meter above the ground. Locations were obtained via a handheld GPS. Data were collected over and in the vicinity of a radiometric thorium an

Sediment trapping at "The Jaws" (TV-15): 2008, 2015, and 2018 land-water classifications

The Louisiana State Legislature created the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in order to conserve, restore, create and enhance Louisiana's coastal wetlands. The wetland restoration plans developed pursuant to these acts specifically require an evaluation of the effectiveness of each coastal wetlands restoration project in achieving long-term solutions to arresting

Darcy flux and PFAS mass flux in groundwater at Cannon Air Force Base, Clovis, NM

This United States Geological Survey (USGS) data release contains Darcy flux and mass flux of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) measured using passive flux meters (PFMs) in monitoring wells associated with the Cannon Air Force Base (CAFB) in Clovis, New Mexico. The measurements were conducted by the USGS in cooperation with CAFB, the Air Force Civil Engineer Center, AECOM (an engineering

Survival, and growth of Neocloeon triangulifer under different test conditions in effluent style evaluations

Dataset consists of 4, 7, 10, and 14-day responses of laboratory cultured mayflies (Neocloeon triangulifer) to sodium chloride exposure under different test condition scenarios. Responses were measured as mortality and growth (length). Water quality and analytical chemistry results associated with toxicity data are included. Experiments included 1) testing the influence of organism age on mortalit

West Brook Trout Data, Whatley, Massachusetts.

The Ecology Section at the USGS Conte Laboratory has studied fish in the West Brook since 1997. The goal is to understand the strength and direction of drivers on fish growth, movement, reproduction and survival in the wild. We hope to provide a comprehensive understanding of fish population dynamics and ultimately individual fitness (natural selection and evolution) in the study area.

Data from the article “An opportunistic survey reveals an unexpected coronavirus diversity hotspot in North America”

In summer 2020, SARS-CoV-2 was detected on mink farms in Utah. An interagency One Health response was initiated to assess the extent of the outbreak and included sampling animals from or near affected mink farms and testing them for SARS-CoV-2 and non-SARS coronaviruses. Among the 365 animals sampled, including domestic cats, mink, rodents, raccoons, and skunks, 261 (72%) of the animals harbored a

Spatial models indicating avian influenza transmission risk at the interface of domestic poultry and wild birds in China

Emergence of avian influenza viruses with high lethality to humans, such as the currently circulating highly pathogenic A(H5N1) and A(H7N9) cause serious concern for the global economic and public health sectors. To improve our understanding of the spatial and temporal trends in transmission risk we developed a model that predicts hotspots of novel virus emergence between domestic and wild birds a

Data measuring avian influenza infection, mercury concentration, and body condition in wild waterfowl

These data represent mercury contamination, influenza infection, and body condition in 11 species of dabbling and diving ducks in the Pacific Flyway. These data support a USGS lead scientific publication.

Estimated crop irrigation water use withdrawals in Hualapai Valley Groundwater Basin, Arizona for 2021

Observations of irrigated agricultural land within the Hualapai Valley Groundwater Basin in Arizona. Crops were verified in situ once in 2021 on May 20th; based on digitized field boundaries. Field boundaries were digitized from U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agricultural Imagery Program images dated 2021 and supplemented with Landsat and Sentinel2 imagery collections accessed via the Se

Concentrations and laboratory quality-assurance data for six unregulated contaminants measured in source and finished drinking-water samples collected from public water systems throughout Minnesota by using ELISA and MS-based analytical methods

The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Minnesota Department of Health, conducted a study to determine the occurrence of six unregulated contaminants in source and finished drinking-water samples collected from 67 public water supply systems throughout Minnesota. Minnesota relies on groundwater and surface water sources for drinking water. Land use, such as wastewater discharge and agr

Mainstem Rivers of the Conterminous United States

Mainstem rivers are the backbone of a connected network of hydrologic units that cover the landscape. A mainstem connects a headwater source area to an outlet. This data release identifies the same mainstem paths in hydrographic datasets for the conterminous US. The Mainstems dataset includes cross walks between mainstem identifiers and several hydrographic datasets. These cross walk tables do no

Alaska Science Center Data Sheets from Intracoelomic Transmitter Implant and Liver Biopsy Surgeries in Birds, 1993-2012

These are surgery data sheets filled out during operations on many bird species by the USGS Alaska Science Center, 1993-2012. The majority of surgeries were to implant intracoelomic tracking transmitters, but a subset were to collect liver biopsy samples. The data sheets provide information about individual surgeries, including: data about each bird, the timing of steps during each operation, admi
