Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Point Sampling for Eelgrass (Zostera marina) and Seaweeds in Duchikthluk and Shoal Bays of Nunivak Island, Alaska, 2010

These data are in seven tables relating to surveys of eelgrass beds in Duchikthluk and Shoal Bays of Nunivak Island, Alaska. The tables provide environmental conditions, eelgrass abundance, distribution, and measurements used to estimate overall biomass. These tables also provide information on percent cover and location of eelgrass and seaweeds/bluegreen algae, biomass of eelgrass, presence and a

Bathymetry, topography, and sediment grain-size data from the Elwha River delta, Washington, July 2018

Two dams on the Elwha River, Washington State, USA trapped over 20 million m3 of sediment, reducing downstream sediment fluxes and contributing to erosion of the river's coastal delta. The removal of the Elwha and Glines Canyon dams between 2011 and 2014 induced massive increases in river sediment supply and provided an unprecedented opportunity to examine the response of a delta system to changes

Topobathymetric Model of the Coastal Carolinas, 1851 to 2020

To support Hurricane Florence impact modeling of storm-induced flooding and sediment transport, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Coastal National Elevation Database (CoNED) Applications Project has created an integrated 1-meter topobathymetric digital elevation model (TBDEM) for coastal North Carolina, and South Carolina. High-resolution coastal topobathymetric data are required to characterize f

Pesticide Concentrations Measured in Zooplankton Samples Collected from the Sacramento River and Yolo Bypass, California, 2017-2020

Zooplankton samples were collected at a site in the Yolo Bypass in Northern California and at a comparison site on the Sacramento River below the city of Sacramento and analyzed for a large suite of current-use pesticides and degradates. Samples were collected biweekly in the summer/fall 2017 and 2018, and from May 2019-March 2020. Samples were collected by towing a 150-micron conical plankton net

White-tailed deer necropsy data from Wisconsin, 2017-2021

Necropsy data collected from naturally-occurring white-tailed deer mortalities in southwestern Wisconsin from 2017-2021. Hunter-harvest mortalities are not included.

Observations of tsunami and runup heights in Santa Cruz Harbor and surrounding beaches from the 2022 Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai tsunami

The 14 January 2022 eruption of Tonga Hunga-Tonga Ha'apai volcano generated tsunamis that impacted the west coast of the United States on the morning of 15 January 2022. This data release presents runup heights and tsunami heights collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the California Geological Survey (CGS) during surveys at the Santa Cruz Harbor and beaches in Santa Cruz County, Calif

Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) Concentrations of Passive Samplers, Solids, Fat, Oil, and Greases (FOG), and Road Sediments; and Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), and Particulate Organic Carbon (POC) Concentrations in the Back R

This metadata record contains 6 tables used to assess sources of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) in the Back River watershed, Baltimore City, Maryland. Included in the dataset are PCB concentrations of surface water and porewater passive samplers from Herring Run, Moores Run, tidal Back River, and Back River Wastewater Treatment Plant; PCB concentrations of bed sediments and other solids, Fat, Oil

North American electricity power-grid and communication-network anomalies for several magnetic storms

Anomaly lists are presented documenting operational interference to electricity power grids and communication networks in the United States and Canada during magnetic storms. Four of the anomaly lists apply for magnetic storms that occurred in March 1989, August 1972, March 1940, and for various storms 1946-2000; yet another list consists of statistical values summarizing geomagnetically induced c

Volumetric and Mid-Section Discharge Measurement data, Summer through Fall 2020, H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest, Lookout Creek Basin, Oregon

Discrete volumetric and mid-section stream discharge measurements were conducted from July through October 2020 in H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest near Blue River, OR. The measured streams are part of the Lookout Creek basin, draining into Blue River and subsequently the McKenzie River on the west slope of the Cascade Range. ORWSC Streamflow measurements supplemented an eco-drought low-flow model

Uncrewed aerial system aeromagnetic test survey at the Boulder Magnetic Observatory

This data release contains two related datasets acquired for the uncrewed aerial system aeromagnetic test survey at the Boulder Magnetic Observatory. The first contains the raw magnetic data for the set of four test flights, and the second contains the compensated magnetic data for the same four flights. Details of the data are recorded in the metadata files associated with each dataset.

Point Raw Glaciological Data: Ablation Stake, Snow Pit, and Probed Snow Depth Data on USGS Benchmark Glaciers

Since the late 1950s, the USGS has maintained a long-term glacier mass-balance program at three North American glaciers. Measurements began on South Cascade Glacier, WA in 1958, expanding to Gulkana and Wolverine glaciers, AK in 1966, and later Sperry Glacier, MT in 2005. Additional measurements have been made on Lemon Creek and Taku glaciers, AK to compliment data collected by the Juneau Icefield

Tracking durations for marine turtles satellite tagged in Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean sites, 2008-2019

This dataset contains tracking durations for several species of sea turtles tagged with satellite tags between 2008 and 2019. It contains information on species, turtle size, capture methods, tag type, how many days each tag transmitted, whether or not the tag was still attached upon recapture, fouling 'status' of the tag, and foraging region. This dataset thus allows estimation of tracking durati
