Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Whiskey Island Caillou Lake Headlands restoration area - 2012 habitat map, Louisiana Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring Program

This package includes a detailed habitat map, general habitat map, and georeferenced imagery from 2012 for the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) Caillou Lake Headlands project area (TE-0100), also known as Whiskey Island. The project created 170 acres of marsh habitat and 917 acres of dune and beach habitat on Whiskey Island in Terrebonne Parish using material dredged from Ship Shoal. The

FluOil Model and Related Datasets for Kalamazoo River, Michigan Oil Spill: July 21 to October 31, 2010.

This data release contains the FluOil software and the inputs and outputs needed to reproduce the FluOil model findings for a related publication (Li and others, 2022). The FluOil model describes the fate and transport of oil-particle aggregates (OPAs) in inland waterbodies by using particle tracking algorithms to represent the advection, dispersion, deposition, and resuspension of OPAs in turbule

Longnose darter (Percina nasuta) eDNA survey results from the St. Francis River, Missouri 2018

Data describe a designed environmental DNA (eDNA) survey for the detection of longnose darter (Percina nasuta) in field collected water samples. Parameters described include the limit of detection and limit of quantification of the assay; a list of freshwater fish species tissue samples that were used to test specificity of the assay; and field collected water samples that were tested to detect th

Flood Frequency Data Collection, Alaska and Conterminous Basins in Canada

This data collection of U.S. Geological Survey data releases provides the source data and results of flood frequency analyses and annual exceedance probability estimation for selected observed floods in Alaska and conterminous basins in Canada. The data include streamgage information, PeakFQ input and output, flood frequency parameters, flood frequency estimates for selected annual exceedance prob

Global biomes for the Last Interglacial period (127-119 ka) simulated by BIOME4 using CESM2-CISM2 coupled climate–ice sheet model data

This data release contains: 1) the BIOME4-simulated biome data used to create Sommers et al. (2021) Figures 2, 6, S6, and S7; 2) the CESM2-CISM2 calendar-adjusted temperature data used to create Sommers et al. (2021) Figures 2, 7, S2-S5, and S8-S11; and 3) land, ice, and ocean mask data and continent and ice sheet outline files. Additional CESM2-CISM2 simulation data described in Sommers et al. (

Adirondack and Catskill Stream-Fish Survey Dataset (ver. 7.0, December 2023)

The dataset is composed of two data tables containing information from electrofishing surveys conducted in the Catskill and Adirondack regions. The first data table contains fish collection information and the second data table contains information on the sampled reaches. First posted September 25, 2018, ver. 1.0 Revised July 2019, ver. 2.0 Revised November 2020, ver. 3.0 Revised March 2022, ver.

Biomes simulated by BIOME4 using CESM2 lig127k, midHolocene, and piControl climate data on a global 0.5-degree grid

This data set consists of simulated biomes for the last interglacial (127 ka), middle Holocene (6 ka), and preindustrial (1850 CE) time periods displayed in Figure 14 of Otto-Bliesner et al. (2020). Biomes were simulated with BIOME4 (ver. 4.2, https://pmip2.lsce.ipsl.fr/synth/biome4.shtml; Kaplan et al., 2003), an equilibrium vegetation model, using CESM2 (ver. 2.1.0) simulated climate data produ

Adult male horse data from Conger and Frisco Herd Management Areas, Utah, USA, between 2017 and 2020

We studied the effect of castrating a proportion of the adult males in a feral horse herd to examine any effect on behavior and social associations, particularly in terms of association with mares (i.e., maintenance of a harem group). We conducted this study between 2017 and 2020 at two Herd Management Areas (HMAs) in western Utah, USA: Conger and Frisco. We conducted demographic observations year

Propensity of cold air drainage index and related variables

Cold air drainage down slopes may form cold air pools in valleys and surface depressions. These cold air pools can significantly affect ecosystem processes, agricultural crops, and air quality. Rupp et al. (2021, Theoretical and Applied Climatology, https://doi.org/10.1007/s00704-021-03712-y) proposed a propensity of cold air drainage index to represent the likelihood of occurrence of clear-sky no

A circa 2010 global land cover reference dataset from commercial high resolution satellite data

The data are 475 thematic land cover raster?s at 2m resolution. Land cover classification was to the land cover classes: Tree (1), Water (2), Barren (3), Other Vegetation (4) and Ice & Snow (8). Cloud cover and Shadow were sometimes coded as Cloud (5) and Shadow (6), however for any land cover application would be considered NoData. Some raster?s may have Cloud and Shadow pixels coded or recoded t

Biocrust cover, vegetation, and climate data from a protected grassland within Canyonlands National Park, Utah (ver. 2.0, Sept. 2023)

These tabular data were compiled for/to monitor vegetation and biocrust cover in a never grazed grassland located in Canyonlands National Park. An objective, or objectives, of our study was to document potential changes in biocrust and vegetation cover and species composition as related to changes in land use and climate change. These data represent a timeseries of long-term vegetation and biocrus

Aerial imagery and structure-from-motion-derived shallow water bathymetry from a UAS survey of the coral reef off Waiakane, Molokai, Hawaii, June 2018

An unoccupied aerial system (UAS) was used to acquire high-resolution imagery of the shallow fringing coral reef at Waiakane, Molokai, Hawaii, on 24 June 2018. Imagery was acquired over an area between the shoreline and approximately 900 meters offshore, covering approximately 16 hectares. The imagery was processed using structure-from-motion (SfM) photogrammetric techniques with additional refrac
