Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Historic Lake Superior shorelines near Odanah, Wisconsin (1852 - 2013)

This USGS data release presents historic shorelines of Lake Superior near Odanah, Wisconsin encompassing the delta complex of the Bad River from 1852 to 2013 compiled in a Geographic Information System. The coverage of the shorelines starts approximately 8 km northeast of Ashland and extends for about 40 km to approximately 3 km east of the Bad River mouth. The shorelines were derived from land su

Selected sediment data and results from regression models, modified Einstein Prodecure, and loads estimation for the Nemadji River, 1973-2016

This data set includes new and historical sediment data collected at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) streamgage on the Nemadji River near South Superior, Wisconsin (station number 04024430) from 1973 through 2016. The data were used in a comparison study of stream sediment collection and laboratory techniques for characterizing suspended sediment, bedload, and total sediment loads. Data results

Flux and Soil Data from the Alaska Peatland Experiment 2014 to 2016

This dataset supports a published study on the effects of permafrost thaw on greenhouse gas fluxes and microbial activities at the Alaska Peatland Experiment (APEX), part of the Bonanza Creek LTER, in interior Alaska. The dataset includes autochamber CO2 and CH4 fluxes, net ecosystem exchange, ecosystem respiration, soil temperatures, climate data, microbial qPCR data, soil physical chemistry, soi

Lake Michigan Sea Duck Survey 2009-2014

These data contain observation and null polygons for waterfowl aerial surveys of Lake Michigan collected through the years 2009-2014. Polygons were created adjacent to either side of the flight lines (transects). The right and left offset of the polygons from the flight path, was determined using the average altitude of the plane along the transect and the observation angle through the plane's win

Acoustic doppler current profiler (ADCP) transect data at Benicia Bridge and Mallard Island, 2019

Field observations of water and suspended-sediment fluxes were conducted at Benicia Bridge and Mallard Island during the 2019 water year wet season to capture suspended-sediment flux during elevated Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta discharge. Measurements occurred on two occasions: 1) 26th of February 2019 at Benicia Bridge and Mallard Island, following a storm event that increased delta outflow and 2

Erodibility Data from Gust Erosion Chamber Experiments in Grizzly Bay and San Pablo Bay, California, Winter 2020

A Gust erosion chamber was used to apply horizontal shear stress to sediment cores obtained from San Pablo and Grizzly (within Suisun) Bays in California. A pair of sediment cores were collected from the same approximate locations in each bay five times between January 22nd, 2020 and March 11th, 2020 for a total of 10 experiments and 20 sediment core results. Locations were chosen to capture the b

Hydraulic modeling and flood-frequency analyses using paleoflood hydrology for the Tennessee River near Chattanooga, Tennessee

This data release contains the results from a comprehensive field study that applied paleoflood hydrology methods to estimate the frequency of low-probability floods for the Tennessee River near Chattanooga, Tennessee. The study combined stratigraphic records of large, previously unrecorded floods with modern systematic flood records and historical flood accounts.

Pacific common eider (Somateria mollissima v-nigrum) nest records, Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, Alaska, 1991-2004

This data are a single table of nest records from a multi-year study of Pacific Common Eider (Somateria mollissima v-nigrum) biology that was conducted along the lower Kashunuk River, Kigigak Island, and the mouth of the Tutakoke River on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta from 1991-2004.

Colorado River at Salt Wash near Moab, UT - 2020/10/07 Particle Image Velocimetry

The dataset consists of a shapefile of measurements of surface velocity magnitude and direction at the Colorado River at Salt Wash near Moab, UT, on October 7, 2020. The dataset contains approximately 3 km of river length. The surface velocity measurements were made by applying Large-Scale Particle Image Velocimetry (LSPIV) techniques, using overlapping videos collected by small Unmanned Aircraft

Archive of Chirp Subbottom Profile Data Collected in 2019 From Rockaway Peninsula, New York

As part of the Coastal Sediment Availability and Flux Project, scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center conducted a nearshore geophysical survey to map the shoreface of Rockaway, New York (NY) between September and October of 2019. The objective of the project is to improve the understanding of barrier island geomorphic evolution and the se

Soil sample data for four uranium mine sites, Mohave County, Arizona, April and November 2018

This U.S. Geological Survey data release is a spreadsheet containing soil-profile measurements of ambient spring and fall water-potential and water-content conditions, and physical and chemical properties for four mine sites, Mohave County, Arizona, April and November 2018. The four mines sampled in both April and November were Kanab North (native soil and reclaimed soil), EZ2 (native soil), Arizo

Historical and Stochastically Generated Climate and Streamflow Data for the Souris River Basin, United States and Canada

The North Dakota State Water Commission and International Joint Commission partnered with USGS to characterize the climate and streamflow in the Souris River Basin and develop a set of daily streamflow traces from 10-day stochastic streamflow traces discussed in Kolars and others (2016).The Kolars and others (2016) dataset is provided and was used to determine the statistical characteristics of hi
