Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Aeromagnetic data and design files related to testing of new drone-based magnetometer configurations and magnetic compensation software; 2020 Santa Cruz, CA, and Surprise Valley, CA

This dataset contains magnetometry data and design files related to testing of new drone-based magnetometer configurations and magnetic compensation software. Data were collected in Santa Cruz (CA) in September 2020 to compare two magnetometer systems that are flown with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Each system was flown using different suspension designs. To compare the systems and to characte

Geophysical and core sample data collected offshore San Francisco, California, during field activity 2019-649-FA from 2019-10-11 to 2019-10-18

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collected geophysical and core sample data aboard the R/V Bold Horizon in 2019 on cruise 2019-649-FA offshore San Francisco, California. The data were collected to assess sand and gravel resources in Federal and State waters for potential use in future beach nourishment projects along stretches of the coast where critical erosion hotspots have been identified. Thi

Near-shore seawater-column measurements of excess radon (Rn-222) and water levels, Faga'alu Bay, Tutuila, American Samoa, August 2018

This data table includes in-situ near-shore seawater measurements of excess radon (Rn-222) and water levels collected in Faga'alu Bay, Tutuila, American Samoa.

Bat Detector Type Comparison Data from Fort Knox, Kentucky

These data are night level totals of bat calls by species and phonic group recorded at Fort Knox, Kentucky during the summer of 2017. Data contain recordings from zero-crossing frequency division and full spectrum receiving units.

Tracking Data for Kittlitz's Murrelet (Brachyramphus brevirostris)

This metadata document describes the data contained in the "rawData" folder of this data package. This data package contains all data collected by the Argos System from 47 satellite transmitters attached to Kittlitz's Murrelets captured along the north Gulf of Alaska, during May-July 2009-2015. Five data files are included in the "rawData" folder of this data package. Two data files (with identica

Seafloor Elevation Change from the 1930s to 2016 Along the Florida Reef Tract, USA

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center conducted research to quantify bathymetric changes along the Florida Reef Tract (FRT) from Miami to Key West within a 982.4 square-kilometer area. USGS staff calculated changes in seafloor elevation from the 1930s to 2016 using digitized historical hydrographic surveys (H-sheets) acquired by the U.S. Coast and Geode

Historical Ice Breakup Dates for Chequamegon Bay, Lake Superior (ver. 5.0, September 2022)

Ice breakup dates of Chequamegon Bay, Lake Superior from 1911 to 2022 were compiled by Lori Evrard (USGS, GLSC, Lake Superior Biological Station, Ashland, WI). Ice breakup date is the day in spring when winter ice cover substantially leaves a water body. Local residents deem "ice breakup" as when the ice moves northeast of a line straight across Chequamegon Bay out from Ellis Avenue (State highway

Chirp sub-bottom data collected in 2019 in Whiskeytown Lake, California during USGS field activity 2018-686-FA

High-resolution chirp sub-bottom data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center in May of 2019 in Whiskeytown Lake, California using an Edgetech SB-512i sub-bottom profiler. These data were collected to measure possible debris flows into the lake during the 2018-2019 rainy season following the July-August 2018 Carr fire that burned vegetation around th

Foraminiferal Mg/Ca Data from IODP Sediment Core U1446

In 2019 the magnesium-to-calcium (Mg/Ca) ratios were measured in the tests of planktic foraminiferal species, Globigerinoides ruber (white variety), in a subset of samples from Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) sediment core U1146 from the Bay of Bengal drilled November 2014 to January 2015. For further information regarding data collection and/or processing methods, refer to the associated

Hydrodynamic and sediment transport model of San Pablo Bay, California, Nov-Dec 2014

A three-dimensional hydrodynamic and sediment transport model of San Pablo and Suisun Bays was constructed using the Delft3D4 (D3D) modeling suite (Deltares, 2021a) to simulate water levels, flow, waves, and suspended sediment for time period of Nov 1 to Dec 31, 2014. This data release describes the construction and validation of the model application and provides input files suitable to run the m

Nutrient limitation of algae and duckweed in streams: data from laboratory bioassays and field experiments

Data supporting the article, "Nutrient limitation of benthic algae in streams: integrating laboratory bioassays, field experiments, and field data." Datasets include from a battery of laboratory and in situ nutrient limitation tests in streams in the upper Snake River basin, Idaho. Nutrient limitation bioassays of stream water used the green algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata (formerly Selenast

Colorado River at Salt Wash near Moab, UT - 2020/10/06 GPS Survey

The dataset contains GPS survey data collected at Colorado River at Salt Wash near Moab, UT, as part of a surface velocity mapping effort. The survey was conducted on October 6, 2020, and documents ground control points for a small unmanned aircraft system (sUAS) survey. The survey was performed using Leica GS14 RTK GPS equipment, S/N base-2806898, S/N rover-2806883.
