Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Ploidy and genome size estimates of artificially produced larval pallid sturgeon, Scaphirhynchus albus

Data consist of flow cytometry files (.FCS) that were generated in the analysis of larval pallid sturgeon specimens. Nuclei from produced larval sturgeon somatic cells were analyzed using flow cytometry to estimate genome size and assign ploidy. Freshly collected rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides), or pallid sturgeon blood were used as external controls, w

Geochemical Data for Illinois Basin Coal Samples, 2015-2018 (ver. 1.1, March 2021)

Researchers at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and their collaborators conducted a study of the geochemical properties of coals currently produced for electric power generation in the Illinois Basin in Illinois and Indiana. The study follows from recommendations by an expert panel for the USGS to investigate the distribution and controls of trace constituents such as mercury (Hg) in Illinois Bas

Microsatellite genotypes and DNA yield of artificially produced larval pallid sturgeon, Scaphirhynchus albus

Data consist of genotypes for pallid sturgeon and paddlefish broodstock and artificially-produced larvae at 19 sturgeon microsatellite loci and four paddlefish loci. Microsatellite genotypes allowed confirmation of homozygous sturgeon DNA and absence of paddlefish DNA in haploid gynogens. Data also consist of DNA yield estimates for haploid gynogens for proof of concept that haploid gynogens can p

Reanalysis of Additional Selected Archived NURE-HSSR Sediment Samples from Idaho and Montana

In December of 2018, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) signed a Technical Assistance Agreement with a third party to reanalyze 2,324 archived sample splits collected as part of the National Uranium Resource Evaluation (NURE) Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance (HSSR) project from selected areas in Idaho and Montana. A small amount (approximately 0.25 grams [g]) of sieved less than

Peak-flow frequency analysis for three selected streamgages in the Cedar and Little Sioux River Basins, Iowa, based on data through water year 2019

This data release presents a peak-flow frequency analysis by the U.S. Geological Survey that was based on methods described by Eash and others (2013) for streamgages 05458300 Cedar River at Waverly, Iowa; 05458500 Cedar River at Janesville, Iowa; and 06606600 Little Sioux River at Correctionville, Iowa. These methods are used to provide estimates of peak-flow quantiles for 50-, 20-, 10-, 4-, 2-, 1

Habitat and fish assemblages along four river mainstems in Ontario, Canada, 1997 to 2001, with supporting spatial data

This dataset includes information about valley segment and catchment summaries, valley characteristics, instream habitat, and fish for valley segments, sites, and transects along four river mainstems in Ontario, Canada. Moving west to east, the rivers include the Grand River which ends in Lake Erie at Port Maitland, the Ganaraska River which ends in Lake Ontario at Port Hope, the Trent River which

Soil properties and soil radioisotope activity across Breton Sound basin wetlands (2008-2013)

This dataset contains vertical profiles of soil bulk density, percent organic matter, percent total carbon and cesium-137 activity from the surface down to 50-60 cm deep at 25 marsh locations across Breton Sound basin, Louisiana. These data will provide information related to rates of vertical accretion, organic and mineral accumulation and carbon burial in wetland soils across a large portion of

Watershed Data Management (WDM) Database (SC19.WDM) for Salt Creek Streamflow Simulation, DuPage County, Illinois, January 1, 1997, through September 30, 2019 (ver. 1.1, September 2024)

The watershed data management (WDM) database SC18.WDM is updated with the processed data for the period October 1, 2018, through September 30, 2019. The precipitation data are collected from a tipping-bucket rain-gage network and the hydrologic data (stage and discharge) are collected at USGS streamflow-gaging stations in and around DuPage County, Illinois. Hourly precipitation and hydrologic data

Watershed Data Management (WDM) Database (WBDR19.WDM) for West Branch DuPage River Streamflow Simulation, DuPage County, Illinois, January 1, 2007, through September 30, 2019

This data release is the update of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) - ScienceBase data release Bera (2020b), with the processed data for the period October 1, 2018, through September 30, 2019. This data release describes the watershed data management (WDM) database file WBDR19.WDM. The WDM database file WBDR18.WDM (Bera, 2020b) is updated with the quality-assured and quality-controlled meteorolog

Survey of first-floor elevations of buildings in the Lake Champlain floodplain, Vermont, 2020

In August 2020, the U.S. Geologic Survey acquired high-precision survey data of first-floor doorway threshold elevations at buildings in the Lake Champlain floodplain in Vermont. For a representative sample of buildings within the 106 feet (National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929) stage boundary of the regional flood-inundation map (Flynn and Hayes, 2019), 153 buildings, or nearly 12 percent of t

Estimated quantiles of decadal flow-duration curves using selected probability distributions fit to no-flow fractions and L-moments predicted for streamgages and for pour points of level-12 hydrologic unit codes in the southeastern United States, 1950-201

Using previously published (Robinson and others, 2019) no-flow fractions and L-moments of nonzero streamflow from decadal streamflow flow-duration analysis (daily mean streamflow), probability distributions were fit to provide 27 estimated quantiles of decadal flow-duration curves, and hence the probability distributions are a form of parametric modeling that ensures monotonicity of the quantiles

Vertical Distribution of Longfin Smelt in the San Francisco Estuary (ver. 2.1, August 2020)

Field data for fishes sampled using mid-water trawls, otter trawls, and the SmeltCam during day and night in San Pablo Bay, CA. This data release includes all measured environmental parameters and fish taxa included in the analysis.
