Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Low-Temperature Thermochronometric Data along the Fairweather Fault, Southeast Alaska, 2015-2020

This data set provides low-temperature thermochronometric data from 15 rock samples collected along the Fairweather fault in southeast Alaska. These data are from four different analyses used to estimate cooling ages: 1) apatite (U-Th)/He, 2) zircon (U-Th)/He, 3) apatite fission-track, and 4) zircon fission-track.

Single-beam bathymetric survey of the French Broad River near the Interstate-26 bridge located South of Asheville, NC - June 2019, Pre-construction

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) began work on a highway widening project on Interstate-26 (I-26) in January 2020. The French Broad River flows adjacent to and under I-26 in the project area, located in Buncombe County of North Carolina. The NCDOT identified channel and streambank morphology as a potential indicator they were interested in monitoring at three focus areas to

Carbon and Nitrogen Isotope Concentrations in Polar Bear Hair and Prey from the Alaska Beaufort and Chukchi Seas, 1978-2019

This dataset includes carbon and nitrogen isotope concentrations measured in polar bear hair and marine mammal prey samples collected 1978-2017 in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas. Marine mammal prey samples were collected opportunistically either from polar bear seal kill sites or from marine mammals harvested by Native hunters. Hair was collected from polar bears captured on the sea ice or land in

Fatty Acid Composition of Polar Bear Adipose Tissue and Ringed and Bearded Seal Blubber Collected in the Chukchi Sea, 2008-2017

These data are the fatty acid compositions (in %) of adipose tissue samples collected from polar bears and of blubber samples collected from ringed and bearded seal killed by polar bears in the Chukchi Sea, 2008-2017. The dataset includes sex, age, and age class of the bears that were sampled. The data are provided as % of each fatty acid identified via nomenclature that describes the structure of

Long-term mean annual total nitrogen and total phosphorus loads estimated using Fluxmaster 5-parameter models and detrended to 2012, Midwest Region of the United States, 1999-2014

This USGS data release contains long-term mean annual total nitrogen and total phosphorus load estimates, and the model coefficients used to obtain the load estimates, for streams in the Midwest Region of the United States. The loads were estimated using the Fluxmaster program (Schwarz and others, 2006, https://pubs.usgs.gov/tm/2006/tm6b3) with a 5-parameter model and detrending to 2012 following

Corbicula spp. locations in the United States from 1964 to 2019

The dataset consists of Corbicula (Asian clam) collection locations from rivers and streams of the United States.

Tracking Data for Three Large-bodied Gull Species and Hybrids (Larus spp.)

This data release includes 2 child items with tracking data for three large-bodied gull species and hybrids (Larus species) utilizing coastal areas of Alaska. Child Item 1: "Argos and GPS Satellite Tracking Data for Three Large-Bodied Gull Species and Hybrids (Larus spp.) - Processed Data" -- Quality-controlled data collected from Argos and Argos-linked GPS satellite transmitters. Ch

Alakai Plateau, Kauai, and Volcano Village,Hawaii biopesticides and traps for the control of Culex quinquefasciatus, 2017-2018

This USGS data release consists of seven data sets and accompanying metadata for studies on the efficacy of adult mosquito traps and lures for monitoring populations of the invasive mosquito Culex quinquefasciatus and the efficacy of the biopesticide VectoMax FG for control of larval Culex quinquefasciatus in Hawaiian forest bird habitat. Culex quinquefasciatus is the vector of the avian malaria P

Field measurements of flow depth and optical image sequences acquired from the Salcha River, Alaska, on July 25, 2019

This data release includes field measurements of flow depth and optical image sequences acquired from the Salcha River in Alaska on July 25, 2019. These data were used to develop and test a spectrally based remote sensing technique for estimating water depth from passive optical image data. The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility of inferring water depths from optical image seque

Thin section images of drill core from the Crescent Creek area in the Stillwater Complex, Montana

This dataset includes photographic images of thin sections of drill core from the Stillwater Complex, Montana, along with a shapefile representing the location of the drill hole. The core was drilled in order to study contact-type copper and nickel sulfide mineralization in the Stillwater Complex. The images of the entire thin section, both in plane- and cross-polarized light, were taken using a h

Non-linear baseflow separation model with parameters and results (ver. 2.0, October 2022)

This data release provides source code and an R workspace with functions comprising a non-linear baseflow separation model, calibrated values of parameters and estimates of the baseflow component of daily streamflow at selected streamflow gages. Parameter values were determined by calibration of the model. Estimates of the baseflow component include daily values and the total baseflow as a fractio

Water quality and seepage estimates collected at Lake Spokane, WA, 2016-2019

Shallow nearshore groundwater chemistry and estimates of groundwater seepage were collected across 21 locations along Lake Spokane, WA, beginning in October 2016 and ending in October 2019. Groundwater chemistry was collected using temporary mini-piezometers and seepage rates from Lee-type seepage meters. Sample locations are divided into two distinct types: Core sites, where seepage data and grou
