Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Landsat 9 Collection 2 cloud truth mask validation set

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center in Sioux Falls, SD developed a cloud validation dataset from 48 unique Landsat 9 Collection 2 images. These images were selected at random from the Landsat 9 archive from various locations around the world.  While these validation images were subjectively designed by a single analyst, they provide useful inform

Density and salinity data to validate an equation of state for hypersaline water in Great Salt Lake, Utah, 2021–2022

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides salinity and density data collected at Great Salt Lake (GSL), Utah monitoring locations during 2021–2022. Temperature, specific conductance, and dissolved oxygen were collected using an In-Situ AquaTROLL 600. Sample density was measured using an Anton Paar DMA 35Ex at 5° increments between 5° and 40° C. Practical salinity was measured at the

Vertical water-quality profiles collected at Great Salt Lake monitoring sites, Utah, 1995–2022

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides vertical water-quality profiles collected at Great Salt Lake, Utah monitoring sites during 1995–2000 and 2011–2022. Data were collected using an In-Situ Multi-Parameter TROLL 9500, In-Situ AquaTROLL 500, In-Situ AquaTROLL 600, or YSI EXO2 Multiparameter Sonde. Recorded parameters include water temperature, specific conductance, dissolved oxy

Model code, input datasets, and prediction files for dynamic stream dissolved solids and static baseflow dissolved solids SPARROW models of the Upper Colorado River Basin, 1986-2017

This data release contains model code and input data for, and predictions from, both a dynamic stream dissolved solids and a static baseflow dissolved solids SPARROW (SPAtially Referenced Regression On Watershed attributes) model of the Upper Colorado River Basin for water years 1986-2017. Input data includes information on dissolved solids sources, landscape transport characteristics, and dissolv

Abundance and Distribution of Fishes in Clear Lake, Lake County, California, 2017-2023

Field data for fishes sampled using bottom and surface gill nets during daylight hours in Clear Lake, California, USA. This data release includes all measured environmental parameters and fish taxa included in the analysis. First posted - December 20, 2018 (available from author) Revision - November 26, 2019 (available from author) Revision - January 21, 2022 (available from author) Revision - Oc

High-resolution geophysical and geological data collected from outer Cape Cod, Massachusetts during USGS Field Activity 2021-004-FA

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center (WHCMSC) completed a bathymetric and shallow seismic-reflection survey during the period of June 9, 2021 to June 24, 2021 in water depths from 2 m to 30 m for a portion of the outer Cape Cod nearshore environment between Marconi and Nauset Beaches. The products from this survey will help to support white shark research

Effects of warming on development rates on Karner Blue Butterfly laboratory data (2011-2012)

The dataset is associated with a project that examines effects of climate change on the federally endangered Karner blue butterfly (Lycaeides melissa samuelis) by subjecting different life stages of the Karner blue to both historically average temperature regimes and temperature regimes 2, 4, and 6 degrees Celsius above historic means. This dataset is composed of two spreadsheets: one for data col

Snag Fall Data from Long Term Forest Dynamics Plots in the Sierra Nevada of California through 2021

These snag (dead tree) fall data were collected as part of long term forest dynamics data. Tree fall data were collected non-systematically as text comments until 2013, after which explicit snag fall data were collected on an annual basis. This particular dataset includes data from 23 plots in old-growth mixed conifer and montane conifer forests in Sequoia-Kings Canyon and Yosemite National Parks.

Data Release: Buttonland Swamp, seed data

This dataset contains canopy measurements of Taxodium distichum taken outside of the Wetland and Aquatic Research Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. The measurements were used to produce data on tree canopy area and seeds produced per Taxodium distichum tree.

Data Release: Buttonland Swamp, population projection

This dataset is part of a population model of Buttonland Swamp in the Cache River Watershed of Illinois. The modeling spans three decades of data from 1990 to 2021. This dataset is used to compare regeneration of Taxodium distichum along a moisture gradient of drier to wetter: Section 8 Woods (2006-2011), Crawford Tract mid-elevation, Eagle Pond, Deer Pond, Wildcat Bluff, Snake Hole, Crawford Trac

Data Release: Buttonland Swamp, health survey, 2022

This dataset contains tree health information in 2022 for ten trees in Buttonland Swamp, part of the Cache River Watershed in Illinois. The data includes the height of the trees along with their crown ratio. This allows an understanding of the size and canopy health of Buttonland Swamp cypress trees. A Munsell color chart was utilized in determining leaf color. Leaf color tells whether the trees a

Data Release: Buttonland Swamp, reproduction, 2006 to 2021

This dataset represents annual reproductive litterfall collections and seedling data from Crawford Tract, Eagle Pond, Section 8 Woods, Deer Pond, Wildcat Bluff, Snake Hole, and Heron Pond from 2006 to 2021. These sites are part of the study location, Buttonland Swamp, within the Cache River Watershed, Illinois. Summer and winter water depths were also included in the dataset.
