Some preliminary notes on the ground water in the Columbia River basalt
The Columbia River basalt carries groundwater by percolation, largely along tabular interflow zones of variable permeability and continuity. At various places the water occurs under perched, unconfined, and confined conditions; at some places it occurs under all three conditions at different depths. Both initial and tectonic structural features, such as inclination of the flows, anticlines and syn

Operator's manual on the visual-accumulation tube method for sedimentation analysis of sands
The visual-tube method for sedimentation analysis of sands was developed as a part of the general investigation titled "A Study of Methods Used in Measurement and Analysis of Sediment Loads in Streams." The method is one answer to the need for a simple, rapid, and inexpensive means of determining the sedimentation-size frequency analysis of sand samples containing particles less than one millimete

The geology and distribution of aquifers in the southeastern part of San Juan County, Utah
The structural geology and the distribution of aquifers in the southeastern part of San Juan County were studied to establish the relationships of fresh-water aquifers to the oil- and gas-bearing rocks in that area.

Phreatophytes
Phreatophytes are plants that depend for their water supply upon ground water that lies within reach of their roots. Although not confined to the arid regions of the Western United States, their occurrence there is more common, more spectacular, and, because of their effect on water supply, more important than it is in humid and subhumid regions. Most phreatophytes have low economic value, and con

Saline-water resources of North Dakota
Natural waters in North Dakota have been arbitrarily defined in this report as saline or fresh; water containing more than 1,000 ppm (parts per million) of dissolved solids or having a specific conductance greater than 1,400 micromhos per centimeter at 25°C is considered to be saline. A large proportion of the available water supply of North Dakota is saline.

Ground-water resources of the Hueco Bolson northeast of El Paso, Texas
The Hueco Bolson is in the extreme western part of Texas and south- central New Mexico, covering parts of El Paso County, Tex., and Dona Ana and Otero Counties, N. Mex. Wells tapping the bolson deposits furnish the major part of the water supply for the city of El Paso, Ciudad Juarez, Fort Bliss, Biggs Air Force Base, and private industries. in the area. The progressively increasing demand for wat

Preliminary report on ground water in the Bonanza Lake area, Power and Blaine counties, Idaho
The investigation in the Bonanza Lake area of northwestern Power and southeastern Blaine Counties was made to determine the direction of ground-water movement and to ascertain the relation of the regional ground-water body to the Snake River. The surface of the area is nearly flat to gently rolling, and slopes to the west. Lake Channel, an abandoned channel of the Snake River, and a few volcanic c
