Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Genomic variation in the genus Pimephales: raw sequence data and single-nucleotide polymorphisms

The fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) is a key model of vertebrate toxicity. Standardized tests of toxicity in fathead minnow have been developed to support regulatory science, and much is known about the response of the species to various environmental pollutants. However, there is little data on genetic variation within the species, despite the potential influence of genetic background on tox

Tissue Concentrations and Congener Profiles of Harmful Algal Toxins in Seabirds, Forage Fish, and Other Organisms

These data are in four tables and contain results from screening tissues of marine organisms for the presence of harmful algal bloom (HAB) toxins: saxitoxin and its related congeners (STX) and domoic acid (DA). Samples collected by USGS or submitted to our laboratory by partners or other stakeholders are screened using commercially-available enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). A subset of

Demographic and potential biological removal models identify raptor species sensitive to current and future wind energy

A central challenge in applied ecology is understanding the effect of anthropogenic fatalities on wildlife populations and predicting which populations may be particularly vulnerable and in greatest need of management attention. We used 3 approaches to investigate potential effects of fatalities from collisions with wind turbines on 14 raptor species for both current (106 GW) and anticipated futur

Wildland-urban interface maps for the conterminous U.S. based on 125 million building locations

The wildland-urban interface (WUI) is the area where urban development occurs in close proximity to wildland vegetation. WUI maps for the conterminous U.S. were generated using building point locations, offering higher spatial resolution compared to previously developed WUI maps based on U.S. Census Bureau housing density data (Radeloff et al., 2017). Building point locations were obtained from a

Precomputed Percent Forested-Area Rasters Derived from NLCD 2016 in Support of the StreamStats Fire-Hydrology Application, Conterminous United States

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) computed rasters of pre-solved values for the watersheds draining to the pixel delineation point representing the watershed's percent forested land cover from the National Land Cover Dataset (NLCD) 2016 data (land cover values 41-43). These values, which cover the conterminous United States at a scale of 30m pixel size, will be served in the National StreamStats F

Historical groundwater and produced water chemistry data compiled for the Placerita and Newhall Oil Fields, Los Angeles County, southern California

This digital dataset includes 580 samples from 12 groundwater wells and 45 samples of produced water from 38 sites (including 17 wells) located within 3 miles of the Placerita and Newhall Oil Fields in Los Angeles County, southern California. Historical geochemistry data were compiled from multiple data sources for selected water-quality indicators, major and minor ions, nutrients, trace elements,

Literature compilation of paleocurrent data from the Late Paleozoic Ouachita orogen, Oklahoma-Arkansas, U.S.A.

This digital geospatial compilation gathered paleoflow indicators from current-formed sedimentary structures throughout the Paleozoic Ozark uplift, Arkoma foreland basin, and Ouachita fold-thrust-belt of eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas from existing publications. This dataset consists of unidirectional and bidirectional paleocurrents observed from a variety of bedform types represented by ap

Flood Frequency Data for a Streamgage in the Hulahula River Basin, Alaska, 2011-2021

This data release provides the source data and results of a flood frequency analysis for a streamgage in the Hulahula River Basin, Alaska. Data are provided for one streamgage that had at least 10 years of peak-flow record. The data include streamgage information, PeakFQ input (.txt and .PSF files) PeakFQ output (.PRT, .EXP, and .JPEG files), flood frequency parameters, flood frequency estimates f

Data Release - Digital subsurface data from previously published contoured maps of the tops of the Mowry Shale, Morrison Formation, and Minnelusa Formation, Powder River basin, Wyoming and Montana

This digital data release contains previously published contours on the tops of the Mowry Shale, Morrison Formation, and Minnelusa Formation. The maps are from a series of U.S. Geological Survey Miscellaneous Field Studies (MF) showing computer-generated structure contours, isopachs, and cross sections of selected formations in the Powder River basin, Wyoming and Montana (Crysdale 1990, 1991a, 199

Whole Rock Major and Trace Element Chemistry for Igneous Rocks from Tyonek, Lime Hills, Talkeetna, McGrath, and Lake Clark Quadrangles, Western Alaska Range, Alaska

This data release contains whole rock major and trace element data for 69 igneous rock samples collected from the Western Alaska Range between 2011 and 2012. The Series field relates to chronological units discussed in Jones et al. (2021, Geosphere) and Todd et al. (2022 IN PREP). Descriptions are from original collector notebooks and are provided here for informational purposes only.

Charley River Cosmogenic Isotope Data Collected 2019-2021

This data release comprises three tables containing cosmogenic beryllium-10 and aluminum-26 concentrations and related data from samples collected at four sites along the Charley River in central Alaska in 2019, prepared in 2020 at the University of Vermont (UVM), and measured at the Purdue Rare Isotope Measurement lab (PRIME) in 2021. The file "geology_siteLocations_Charley_bender_2022.csv" conta

Fishway Structure Data in the Eastern United States

These data are a compilation of fishway structures collected by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission state representatives at the request of the U.S. Geological Survey. The variables included within this dataset range from locality information and structure metadata (eg. latitude/longitude and year of construction) to metrics specifically about the fishway structure (eg. fishway width).
