Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Stream classification and gravel bar inventory for Buffalo National River and Ozark National Scenic Riverways, 1982-2014

This data release contains numerous shapefiles that describe baseline characterization of the physical attributes of the riverine ecosystems in two national parks - Ozark National Scenic Riverways (ONSR), Missouri, and Buffalo National River (BNR), Arkansas. The individual metadata associated with each shapefile describe in detail the specific process steps, source inputs for the data, and the spe

Modeled Stream Metabolism in Boulder Creek near Boulder, CO (2016 - 2018)

The data presented here was collected adjacent to USGS stream gage 06730200 and includes both observed and modeled values. Dissolved oxygen, dissolved carbon dioxide, stream depth, water temperature, and light intensity were collected via passive water quality sensors. Modeled values include gross primary production, ecosystem respiration, net ecosystem production, reaeration, and light (when obse

Brown Treesnake Mortality Habitat Management Unit Guam 2019

The dataset contains 16 columns of data collected on invasive Brown Treesnakes (Boiga irregularis) at a study site known as the Habitat Management Unit (HMU) in northern Guam. Snakes were fitted with radio-transmitters and teams of 2-4 biologist listened for signals from transmitters every seven days to determine if snakes were alive or dead. Survival data was then modeled in Program MARK to asses

Groundwater chemistry in the Lower East Rift Zone and summit of Kilauea Volcano, Hawai'i

Chemical and isotopic analyses are reported for water samples collected from water supply wells, a geothermal well in the Puna Geothermal Venture (PGV) power plant, a hot spring in the Puna District, a research well on the summit of Kilauea Volcano (informally called "NSF Well", or "Keller Well "), and a water catchment in the headquarters area of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, Hawai'i. These wa

Geospatial datasets and hydraulic models for the Grand River, Red Cedar River and Sycamore Creek near Lansing, Michigan (ver. 1.1, February 2023)

Hydrologic and hydraulic analyses were done for selected reaches of the Grand River, Red Cedar River and Sycamore Creek near Lansing, Michigan. To update and expand a portion of the Federal Emergency Management Agency detailed Flood Insurance Study, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the City of Lansing initiated a cooperative study. The study comprised a 3.2-mile reach of the Grand River, a 30

Chemical and physical data for sediment source fingerprinting of suspended and bottom sediment in Little River, Kentucky.

This data release includes physical and chemical data for samples from upland source and streambank sampling sites in the Little River basin, Kentucky. Data were collected from March to November of 2014. These data include total nitrogen and carbon concentrations, organic carbon concentrations, concentrations for 37 metals, and particle-size analysis. Source samples were grouped into one of four l

Chemical and physical data for sediment source fingerprinting of suspended and bottom sediment in the West Fork of Beaver Creek, Minnesota

This data release includes physical and chemical data for samples from suspended and bottom sediments of streams in Minnesota. Data were collected in September 2011 and April 2012. These data include total nitrogen and carbon, organic carbon, concentrations for 39 metals, and particle-size analysis. Source samples were grouped into one of three land-use categories: channel (Mid-bank,Low-bank), cro

Sources of fine-grained sediment in the Linganore Creek Watershed, Frederick and Carroll Counties, Maryland, 2008-2010

This dataset provides physical and chemical data for a sediment-fingerprinting study conducted in the upper parts of the Linganore Creek watershed in an effort to quantify and determine the sources of fine-grained sediments eroded from and deposited on streambanks, flood plains, channel beds, and agricultural and forested uplands. Data were collected from August 1, 2008 through December 31, 2010.

Temperature data for tegu lizard study in Auburn, Alabama 2017-2018

The dataset contains 11 columns of data collected 2017-2018 during a study to assess the ability of invasive Argentine Black and White Tegu (Salvator merianae) to survive in temperate climates of the southeastern USA. Lizards were individually housed in outdoor semi-natural enclosures on the campus of Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, USA. Database contains tegu identification number, sex, and

Water-Quality Measurements in Savannah River, Savannah, Georgia, 2020

The Savannah Harbor Expansion Project (SHEP) began in January 2015 with the purpose of deepening the Savannah Harbor federal shipping channel to allow access to larger shipping vessels (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 2018a). There are various features and mitigation efforts to the SHEP, one of which is the installation of a dissolved-oxygen (DO) injection system at two locations along the Savannah

Brecchia pipe uranium mine bird survey data, Grand Canyon region, 2014-2015

Containment ponds at uranium mines in the Grand Canyon region have been suspected to pose an attractive nuisance to local wildlife in this arid landscape. To determine the presence of bird species at uranium mine openings, we surveyed the bird community in the area surrounding the mines repeatedly within one year and summarized species occurrence. We observed 35 species of birds directly using the

Pesticide and transformation product concentrations and risk quotients in U.S. headwater streams

This dataset includes a subset of previously released pesticide data (Morace and others, 2020) from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Quality Assessment Program (NAWQA) Regional Stream Quality Assessment (RSQA) project and the corresponding hazard index results calculated using the R package toxEval, which are relevant to Mahler and others, 2020.
