Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Urban Waters Federal Partnership: Novel bacteria monitoring technology in support of recreational water quality monitoring in the Lower Delaware River

The United States Geological Survey’s (USGS) New Jersey Water Science Center, in coordination with the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) deployed a novel bacterial water-quality monitor, the Fluidion Alert V2 (Fluidion), in the Delaware River at Pyne Poynt Park in Camden County, New Jersey. Following United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recreational water quality criteria, DRBC

Peak-Flow Frequency Analysis for 464 U.S. Geological Survey Streamgages in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, Based on Data Through Water Year 2017

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Central Midwest Water Science Center (CMWSC) completed a report (Over and others, 2023) documenting methods for peak-flow frequency analysis in Illinois following Bulletin 17C guidelines. The methods are used to provide estimates of peak-flow quantiles for 50-, 20-, 10-, 4-, 2-, 1-, 0.5-, and 0.2-percent annual exceedance probabilities (AEPs) for selected USGS str

Channel incision characteristics in Clarksburg, MD

This dataset describes field-measured qualitative stream channel characteristics indicative of incision and remotely-measured predictions of channel incision from lidar in three headwater streams in the Piedmont physiographic region of Maryland. The files within the field-measured channel incision folder include 1) a point file of original survey locations with a description of channel characteris

Gene Transcription and Heat Shock Protein 70 Abundance in Juvenile Hatchery Reared Coho Salmon and Chinook Salmon during a Manipulative Thermal Experiment, Anchorage, Alaska 2020-2021

This dataset consists of two tables with the results from two manipulative thermal experiments with juvenile coho salmon (May 2021) and juvenile Chinook salmon (May 2020) and include 1) gene transcription results and heat shock protein 70 abundance in coho salmon and Chinook salmon and 2) water temperatures to which fish were exposed during the experiment.

Reduced representation sequencing and genotyping of Arizona Toads (Anaxyrus microscaphus) from the southwestern United States

The dataset consists of genotypes (diploid base calls at variant sites) at 3,601 anonymous sites of the Arizona Toad (Anaxyrus microscaphus) nuclear genome. The genotyped samples are representative of the range of the species and its major population units, and the genotyped loci have a high degree of completeness. This data release consists of several files: 1. sample.metadata.txt, which contain

Occurrences of Apis mellifera filamentous virus (AmFV) sequences in public accessions of Apis mellifera and Varroa destructor

Honey bees (Apis mellifera), a critical agricultural pollinator in many areas, have a high rate of infection with a large DNA virus, Apis mellifera filamentous virus (AmFV), yet little is known about its ecology or impact on honey bee colonies, other than its ubiquity and apparent low virulence. This study scanned over 5,000 public data sets to detect AmFV sequences in honey bees as well as a para

Lake Michigan juvenile lake trout diets 2015-2017, 2019-2022

These data consist of juvenile lake trout biological and diet information collected from USGS bottom trawl, beam trawl, and gillnet surveys in Lake Michigan from 2015-2017 and 2019-2022. All prey were identified, enumerated and weighed. Only fish prey and Mysis had lengths measured.

Bibliography of hydrological and ecological research in the Great Basin terminal lakes, USA

This database contains literature citations and associated abstracts pertaining to the ecology and hydrology of terminal lakes in the Great Basin region of the western United States. This is not meant to be an exhaustive list, nor did we perform a systematic meta-analysis; rather, literature records were included based on topical relevance.

Length, Weight, Energy Density, and Isotopic Values of Fish from Rivers in Northwest Alaska, 2015-2019

This dataset contains length, weight, energy density, and isotope values of fish collected in northwest Alaskan rivers during summer and fall 2015-2019.

Engineering Soil Classification and Geotechnical Measurements in Lares, Naranjito, and Utuado, Puerto Rico

The data includes soil texture, soil-water, and estimated soil strength properties for soil map units and from geotechnical investigations of landslide areas affecting highways in the municipalities of Lares, Naranjito, and Utuado, Puerto Rico.

Model input and output data covering Lares Municipio, Utuado Municipio, and Naranjito Municipio, Puerto Rico, for landslide initiation susceptibility assessment after Hurricane Maria

Hurricane Maria induced about 70,000 landslides throughout Puerto Rico, USA (Hughes and others, 2019). Data in this project pertain to two areas situated in Puerto Rico’s rugged Cordillera Central range. Combined, these areas account for more than half of the hurricane-induced landslides. One of these areas encloses two neighboring municipalities, Lares Municipio, and Utuado Municipio, and the sec

Data for Estimating Peak-Flow Quantiles for Selected Annual Exceedance Probabilities in Illinois

The U.S. Geological Survey Central Midwest Water Science Center completed a report (Over and others, 2023) documenting the methods, results, and applications of an updated flood-frequency study for the State of Illinois. This data release contains data related to the analysis completed to determine peak-flow quantiles (flood frequency estimates) at streamgages in Illinois for 50-, 20-, 10-, 4-, 2-
